Spare a thought this afternoon for long-time Gashead Dave Shield who died yesterday morning after losing his fight with oesophageal cancer. I first met on the terraces at Eastville back in the, probably, the 70s. Stood with him through the Twerton years and on to the Mem. My son and I went with him to Liverpool in the cup tie. A great guy and true Gashead. Taken far too early.

Dave would have had the pleasure of calling 3 grounds home. He would have seen promotions and relegations ,close escapes and nearly did it seasons. Visited wembley and the millennium stadium. Saw cup upsets both for and against . Watched players destined for greater things. Gone from backs to the wall survival mentality to divisional big boys. Had the full range of emotions and shared those with others on the terraces.
Dave got to have a rich tapestry of football experience more than many fans across the country no doubt.
I did not know Dave but we all have a shared bond at this club.

Dave,I too have been to all three of our 'HOMES' since the fifties.Never really easy supporting the Gas but the good times have been well worth it.R I P my friend and will be thinking of your family at this time.

When me and Dave worked together we probably spent more time chatting about the Gas than working 🤣🤣
As bluegas said, I played against Dave and when he said that Lansdown played for his team as well I thought he was winding me up until they turned up to our alley out Patchway and about 20 minutes later SL arrived and Dave just said to me "see told you" and took a swig on his pint.
Lovely guy and my heart goes out to his family.
