First of all, wishing all the best to Tom. I hope recovery goes well and he defies the odds to continue on with his fantastic career! The man deserves to be a premier league player, he's worked so hard for it. I came across this Central Club podcast episode released last week before the latest incident. He comes across as a standout professional and top bloke. Clearly still a gashead, said that he was all Cardiff growing up but the club broke his heart and so Rovers is his club now.
Here's the link to the podcast for those interested -
What I found interesting is how he describes the state of the club 10 years ago when we were relegated out of the football league. Badly run, very unprofessional players, drinking on Thursdays before games on the weekend, turning up late, players stinking of booze during training. He says it was half of the first team and that actually getting relegated was great for the club as it got us to clear out the "dickheads" and get our arse in gear! We all know how right he is there but I'm curious to know who these said "dickheads" were that didn't deserve to wear the shirt. Anyone got any information on who those supposed older professionals were that helped cause the demise of the club?
Looks like these were the older players / regular names on the team sheet that left that summer: Gary Kenneth, Jon-Joe O'Toole, Danny Woodards, Jim Paterson, Michael Smith, David Clarkson, Steven Gillespie, Matt Harrold, Chris Beardsley, Seanan Clucas, Eliot Richards, Kaid Mohamed, Oliver Norburn, Matt Gill, Alan Gow

Brilliant player a multi cap international and even better person soon as he got injured that season we were all but down

A shame he was surrounded by such dross.

I still regard Michael Smith as one of the best full backs we've had and he's obviously gone on to do very well, so feels safe to say he wouldn't have been one of the trouble makers. John-Joe O'Toole had a great season but there's something about him that makes me think he still could have been one of them. I could see a lot of those names potentially being who Locks was on about, a lot of journeymen in 13/14. I'd love to know if anyone is itk!

Norburn would have been one of them. Seem to remember he had some drug publicity when he was going out with a soap actress

Met him a couple of times and aloof would be how I'd describe him. Gave that infamous interview to BBC during relegation battle where he said he wanted a move. Garry Kenneth was on a big downward trajectory and arrived overweight, was drinking too much at the time and had the wrong attitude. Described as "lazy" during his time here by McGhee, did McGhee not see the size of him before signing? FFS. Norburn partying too much at that time (although subsequently done well for himself).

Love Lockyer, he had passion, skill and loyalty for us. Loved it when he said Bristol Rovers ws his team.

That was a good watch , admire him a little bit more than I did before. Top bloke who’s down to earth . Let’s hope he gets to play the game he loves again .

Pretty sure Clucas was a decent lad from a good family. His dad was on here a lot wasn’t he? Matt Gill what a horrible signing he was bet he was on big wages too. I had no idea Matt Gill was the current Southampton assistant manager! I’d really love someone to do a podcast with Richards because he was here a long time and would have some interesting stories.

I’d really love someone to do a podcast with Richards because he was here a long time and would have some interesting stories. He found out he was being released from us on Twitter! I had some sympathy with him then and also the fact he scored a brilliant hattrick away at Wycombe before the game was abandoned due to a thunderstorm... I never understood why we swapped him for Alan Gow the season we went down - although maybe things might have been different if Gow didn't then break his leg? He later survived testicular cancer and went on to play in Florida with Stuart Campbell. I reckon you're right - one hell of a pod that would make. Get on it GasCast folks!
