Seasons greetings!
Possibly the toughest match of season, but with every posed outcome comes unexpected opposites.
We have a pressure free fixture, so if everyone expects us to lose, anything more is a bonus.
Pompey lose at home to a Blackpool side on the rampage, a team we matched for 45 mins until our fragile defence imploded....yet we still created opportunities. Which is encouraging. Then, a draw at home to Fleetwood (who I'm reliably informed "came at us and gave it a go"). Dominating wins v Shrewsbury and Northampton propel them where they are....but I remember the first match in that drenching of a game in August where we almost clung on for 3 points.
MT should still be in the process of working on his best player formula.
There are many factors that make this fixture not so easy to predict.
The key is having experienced defenders available, so I would suggest Wilson and Taylor combo at the back is imperitive for a positive outcome. For me, Kramer, Grant, Hoole, Cox are either too mistake prone, inexperienced and not confidence inspiring for such a high profile match, where everyone has to be at their very best and beyond to stand a chance of achieving anything. Oh for a wish to get Friend and Hunt back to full fitness. We simply don't have quality strength in depth at the back.
We will create opportunities, it's up to us to convert them. I would plonk 2 up front today and go for it. Maybe Martin partnership with Marquis...? I would also keep 1 up on their set pieces, aim to defend higher up the pitch and man mark that Colby fella. Plus, Finley needs to keep his head and act like the captain he is.
There is a result in there somewhere. If we get our homework correct and execute it the right way..
Sticking neck out as it's pantomime season: Gas 1-0 is possible. Sprouts and stuffing taking effect. Surely we're due of all controversy v Pompey to go our way for a change?
Enjoy the match wherever you are!

Enjoy the match wherever you are! Agree with a lot of this , although I’d stick Collins up front with Marquis and Brown behind . Telling Brown he has to show a marked improvement in his work rate with and without the ball or he may as well bugger off. Think he still could be a really good player for us . Collins is surely due a goal and today would be a great time to kickstart his season. Im going for a highly entertaining 3-2 Gas victory.

Big day for T2, he now has had time to have a good look at what he has in the hutch, their character, ability, do they want to play for him; today we have a good chance to really assess his match day team management, see if he can play a tune out of the old band, before the January shake down. When we went down to Pompey on train back i9n August the talk was that we would get beat, has it happened we were really good, could have easily taken all 3 points; today imo will be no exception. If Hunt and Wilson start, and Azza finds a bit of confidence, I see Rovers winning a nail biter, probably 2-1. UTG Or were Pompey not firing? Didn't they take a bit of time to get going this season? I'm just happy to have a home game on boxing day that hasn't been cancelled due to frost and have a couple of beers with me buds. Any points from today are an absolute bonus.

Could it happen again? August 24th AD 79 Early in the afternoon Pompeii destroyed December 26th 2023 AD Early in the afternoon Pompy away run ended Picky bastard historian here but the date of the destruction of Pompeii is more like November 23rd 79AD. Still the idea of destroying Pompey’s away record still appeals massively.

Tough game today. Would snatch your hand off for a draw. Agree, although Boxing Day does throw up some strange results! Hopefully they have eaten far too many pigs in blankets and had one extra nightcap and their hangovers kick in as we kick off!! UTG

Matchball Sponsors today so table in hospitality ..
Prefer Jerk King offering to be honest …
Packed in here and some very loud voices … swearing and spouting drivel.
Anyway … Tough tough game today - if we turn up and have a real go at them then we have a chance.
I absolutely detest Towler / Poole / Pack and admire Colby Bishop … All four could be influential and keep an eye out for Yengi if he gets minutes.
Living in hope for a point today …

Perhaps emulating Caesar’s tactics at the battle of Pharsalus by slimming down the midfield and adding to the right wing is the way to go. It ended Pompey’s campaign in the 48 season…(BCE).
