Cox 6 ok but still gets bullied at set pieces Taylor 7.5 a good steady game Wilson 7.5 a bit odd to see him often wide right but he was fine Crama 8 probably his best game in the colours Thomas 9 M.o.M superb display capped with the winner Finley 7 battled hard but partially at fault with their goal Ward 8 elegant and effective Evans 8.5 back to his brilliant best Vale 8 set up the winner ,he so versatile ! Collins 7.5 he gave his all ,he just needs a goal . Marquis 7.5 led the line well,a classic display of the fine arts ! Ward Bogarde Martin 6 Hunt 6 Woods Hoole Brown Ref 4 he wanted to be the star the show, Portsmouth 6 apart from a spell late on they were second best and were lucky not to finish the game with nine men, but its easy to see why they are top of the league, they'll go up and good riddance !! |

Cox-8 Had a great game kicked well and pulled off 2 good saves.
Taylor-8 Kept Bishop quiet and keeps getting better and better.
Wilson-7 Solid and makes us look so much better defensively when he starts.
Crama-7.5 Getting back to the form we saw at the start of the season.
Thomas-8 Another good shift and deserved the goal for his efforts.
Finley-7.5 Led like a captain and got stuck in. Got his customary booking.
Ward-8.5 My MOM worked so hard alot of which tends to go unnoticed and pivotal to any chance of sneaking the playoffs.
Evans-8 Superb free kick and is looking like the player we had 2 seasons ago.
Vale-8 Another quality performance and defensively looks better keeping there dangerman quiet.
Collins-7.5 Was instrumental in both goals and just needs a goal.Frustrating at times but we are a better side when he plays.
Marquis-7 Didn't get many opportunities but worked his socks off closing down and leading the press.

Bogarde
Martin-6.5 Came on just as Pompey had they only good spell of the game.
Hunt-6.5 Will be good to have him back and got forward at every opportunity.
Woods
Hoole
Brown
Ref-6 Didn't think he was as bad as some think maybe should have sent off the Pompey player but tried to keep the game flowing.
Portsmouth-6.5 was expecting a little bit more than the 15/20 minute spell they had in the 2nd half but that was more down to us playing well.

A cracking match like this is won and lost by a team.
None of the players played poorly.
Even the players who have been below par recently contributed massively to the victory.
Bobby Gould used to have an individual player score sheet in his "shed" for each game.
The exception to this system was this type of performance and result.
In 10/20/30 years time the AE/LT goals will be fondly remembered by those of us lucky to be there.
The atmosphere at times in the second half was electric and the Gas were heard far and wide.
BUT. It will be the spirited and competitive team performance that will have left a permanent imprint.
"Remember that brilliant performance against league leaders/unbeaten away Pompey on Boxing Day 2023."
Another of those MARVELLOUS days at The MEM.

Results are in.
Thomas was our highest scorer on 8.2.
Followed closely by Taylor on 8.0, Evans on 7.9 and Wilson on 7.8.
Our lowest scorers were our two subs, Hunt on 6.2 and Martin on 5.6.
The Ref scored 5.5 and Portsmouth 7.0.
