It would be interesting to know, how many of his 8 assists were actually shots???! 😂 I saw the first Martin goal v Charlton as a Harvey vale assist tbh but hey ho. |

Nice op post!
If you watch the Close Quarters Pompey match, it feels like every clip of his involvement, he is fouled!
Even on the 94th minute winner, you see the disgraceful rugby tackle foul from a behind angle.
Unsung hero, quite literally, because if he isn't scoring, he's causing a nuisance so much that defences can't handle him with committing fouls....
Some more goals would be very welcome, but imo worthy more of just 8 assists.

Yes he does provide a lot of assists but he gets stick because he is a lot better than he is currently showing. On his day he is unplayable but those days are very few and far between of late. But I think you must remember that if he was still as unplayable and scoring for fun we wouldn’t be having this conversation because he wouldn’t be here. Anyone playing at the level of performance he was 2nd half of 21/22 season and 1st half of last season doesn’t belong in League one 👍🏾 That's why there was talk of him going last Jan/summer for 2-3M+. He currently has quite a few assists, granted, but too many times he goes down easily or gives away possession and I don't see him glide past defenders much anymore |

Aaron was always a No 10 and his natural game is to assist, not to be the tip of the spear. He did that in the L2 promotion campaign because we were forced to. He is the same player as Evans essentially.
Joey wanted to play with one upfront in the middle and Collins was not going to be that man. He was converted into an inverted winger in a 3 cutting in.
My guess is that he basically retrained himself into this role and that’s why he’s not scoring tons but getting lots of assists.
Even now, he’s not in the 10 role. Evans is playing in the hole.
He is low on confidence hence he’s just not finishing chances. Hes kind of running the channel now in a 2 so often he’s cutting in again.
If we suddenly got him in the team we would be saying what an impact he has.

Type of player you can see pompey derby or Bolton putting a bid in this transfer window to get them automatics.
He has had another good season seeing as he as not had any consistency behind him at LB or lwb.
Some will not realise just how good he is until he is gone.

Would always be in my team if I was manager. He’s lacking that goal scoring threat this season but he’s running about more now Taylor’s here and taking defenders with him , he’s a constant pain in the arse for every team we play and they know that which is why every time he makes a run diagonally he takes two defenders with him which opens up spaces for others. It’s the price you pay for being league 1 player of the season and then staying in league 1 the following season. He’s a marked man and under Barton this season he wasn’t great but under Taylor he’s tearing around running in to spaces , constantly looking for that goal and that’s why Marquis and Martin are scoring, The perfect decoy. AC was poor yesterday and both of Martin's goals were scored after he was subbed off! |
