Four new opinions polls have been released since post Raynor . They suggest the British public aren't too interested in the accusations. All the polls show no change with one actually -2 for the Tories. True it don't give evidence that the public are backing Rayner nether do the public care much about the continuous right wing media attention. Don't shoot the messenger look at the polls !. www.markpack.org.uk/155623/voting-intention-opinion-poll-scorecard/

If she has broken the law, yes I agree. But we don't know that yet. What we do, actually, know is that some of her accusers have avoided millions in paying tax because of their non dom status. That is the irony and hypocrisy I refer to. As mentioned before, non-dom status is a very specific arrangement I think a lot of people don't fully understand. The short version is if you earn money in more than one country and if you never bring that money into the UK, the UK will not tax it. Which is sensible and why the arrangement has been around for more than two centuries. If you move the money, spend or invest the money in the UK then it will be taxed both as income and as spending. This is all fully declared by the people involved, tracked very carefully by HMRC and as well as paying a fee to do it there are huge fines for breaching the arrangement. On the other hand, we have Rayner who (if the allegations are true) deliberately lied to either HMRC and/or her local council and/or her banks and/or the Electoral Commission to personally profit from an arrangement she wants to stop anyone else from taking advantage of.... ...I note the police are now investigating multiple issues with a team of a dozen detectives. Also worth mentioning someone pointed out that she would have filled in various Labour Party paperwork to become an MP during the time in question which would have included her declaring her home address. That would still be on file somewhere and both Rayner and the Party have been asked to release it (with any other sensitive information redacted, the addresses are already public). If she wrote down Vicarage Road there is no reason not to publish it - that would shut down all the allegations, so you have to ask why neither her nor the party want it made public.... I think most of us understand the non dom tax status.

Either your in denial or laughing behind the screen!. The grass who made the accusation is a TORY !. The grass ain't interested in what happened 10 years ago to the tune of zero to a grand . The Grass wants political capital. Everyone knows that it what politicians do. Who would be interested in shopping a self employed scaffolder for taking cash only or a builder 10 years ago ?. I won't be! Everything's political with a view to winning votes. Its what politicians do!.

If Rayner made a simple mistake on the initial accusation (avoiding Capital Gains Tax) she could have come clean and either paid it (as well as potentially a small fine) or shown that she wasn't liable for it... ...instead we got 40 days of no media appearances at all. The longest period she has been off the airwaves since she rose to a senior position in the Labour Party. That's what generated the interest and got people thinking about the further implications and therefore asking more and more questions about her actions. She should have followed her own advice to the political opponents she has gone after over the years, rather than hiding and hoping it would all go away...

If it was the other way around, what would Rayner be saying on every media interview this morning if a Conservative MP was being investigated by a team of 12 detectives over multiple issues?

What makes you think this is about winning votes? This is now a serious criminal investigation into the current Deputy leader of the Labour Party... It was always about votes. The Conservatives are not going to win either way. Surely it's more damaging to release the information once she's Deputy Prime Minister and tarnish their first few months in government...?

What makes you think this is about winning votes? This is now a serious criminal investigation into the current Deputy leader of the Labour Party... It was always about votes. Of course it's about votes. I think he's on a wind up. Ex Tory MPs said on GB news ' They will keep the pressure up and see what the polls say '. The daily mail are running it in the hope it might swing the polls. Everyone knows politicians do this on all sides.

It was always about votes. The Conservatives are not going to win either way. Surely it's more damaging to release the information once she's Deputy Prime Minister and tarnish their first few months in government...? Not necessarily, depends on the motives and little benefit if you have very few MPs and 5 years away from another GE. At the moment I'd say it's about deflection and minimising loses at the next election.

Come clean at the start and no one is talking about it three months later - the only reason this went from CGT to rental income to Electoral Registrations to council tax discounts to Right to Buy discounts to mortgage payments and more is because she ignored the initial claim. Which is why I don't think it's an attack to win votes as she could have shut it down back in Jan/Feb when no one was really thinking about local or general elections...

Have she been found guilty by the police ?. Let's wait and see. Let the police decide . That's what British justice is all about.

Why was a book written, serialised in a national newspaper and said paper and Conservative MPs continuing to raise it (by Sunak himself at the first opportunity during PMQs today)? Surely now it's in the hands of GMP there is no reason to comment until they reach their conclusions.

As I stated in a previous post, she mishandled it by hiding for 40 days. 40 days where she could easily have produced the evidence to clear her name. Like the rock-solid tax advice that exonerates her but she hasn't shown to her boss or anyone else. Like any other document she completed for any reason that shows her home address as Vicarage Road not Lowndes Lane during the period in question. Am I judging her? Yes, based on her actions and the evidence. Is she guilty? Not yet. Would she see those things as different if it was a Conservative MP? Absolutely not....

It's dirty politics. The Tories will go on and on and on and on about Raynor. Labour will use the Lizz truss book just released and the £60k taxpayers moneys used for personal reasons. Labour will focus on the Wiltshire MP. Is it a resignation or when is she going to pay back tax payers money for her legal costs ?.
Welcome to Westminster!.

I think most of us understand the non dom tax status. ...so people should pay UK tax on money earned overseas and never transferred into the UK? Why? As in the States, if that money is taxed at source no. If the cash is not being taxed at all, anywhere, yes.
