Jeremy Hunt was on ITV this morning. He agreed that unpaid carers saved the NHS billions. When asked by Martin Lewis about the 'cliff edge' benefits rather than tapering and the benefits being reclaimed because people earn just over the threshold, he said it was right to go after those who shouldn't claim benefits. So on one hand we save the country billions but even 1p over the threshold means ALL benefits stop and even some paid back.
Question to FG, SG (and Eric if you are reading this), is this right and fair? Where is the incentive to work more?

Would cost next to nothing in the scheme of things, and I assume will be fixed at the fiscal event. Sounds like this is one of those areas where a junior minister or a decent civil servant should have noticed the issue before it actually became a problem. Not sure it's anywhere near the Chancellor's radar *until* the problem occurs...

Not sure it's anywhere near the Chancellor's radar *until* the problem occurs... It's been around and known for a while and as Chancellor he would be aware of cliff edges in tax and benefit rules. It's his job to sign this stuff off. Also, as a carer I think we deserve better than 'thanks for saving us billions, but your £80 is a burden now give it back.'

Then vote for someone else and get Reeves as Chancellor...she looks to be all over the details of her party's policies....

He should be aware and his choice of words is his decision. As for Rachel Reeves, I will hold her equally to account should something similar occur on her watch.

Possibly, or a reshuffle ready to go into one. Calling one soon would push us into early July?

Hopefully Starmer has a few more radical policies he’ll now announce. What we’ve heard so far is all a bit meh 😒

Ah well, another reason for the Off button to be used for weeks to come.
Cynical and maybe a bit silly I grant you but they are all as bad as each other.

Just booked the Friday off to party and celebrate them gone. Bet you won't party like we did when Blair/Brown were kicked out and just like we did when Boris got in. Just glad I don't live in the UK.
