Have you no knowledge of IP addresses then ? As for talking about posters in some group, that’s just mad as a bag of frogs. You are not superior people No one is suggesting we were. Let's put a hypothetical (but typical) scenario out there. Let's say you are being abusive to another poster. 2 users use the "report a post" feature. The Mod team will see the alert and read it. The best course of action to take would be agreed on. No gossip, no secrets, no agendas. Modding by committee in this way actually helps the forum and its users. The irony is some clearly think it's some secret cabal when it's actually the fairest way of doing things. Back in the early days I could have just banned anyone I didn't like. (I don't think I ever did, but it's possible) Now no user gets any action without it being fairly discussed. Which system do you think is better? The mod chat can go weeks on end without any messages at all because the forum is running smoothly. If anyone seriously believes any of the mod team sit around whispering behind the backs of anyone on here they are frankly deluded. Weve all got other things we'd rather be doing and every one of the Mods are active posters with their opinions on the same message boards as everyone else. Did you receive a complaint about myself or Roadman last night? I have received no correspondence to say this is the case. |

Perhaps. But calling individuals Offensive and ‘fecking morons’ as has been suggested just now isn’t going to help that perspective. Dont recall who said the latter, FYI, so just providing examples before anyone starts getting upset. I hadn’t posted in a week and out of the blue I’m asked by a friend who is a MOD if I am posing as Gasdust, so I haven’t offended anyone recently. I will call some a Banned word if I am disrespected, you lot acted as shithosues talking about me behind my back, proper Offensive and no doubt gloating you had worked out I’m Gasdust in your world who I am not. Thank you Russ for your apology but you only had to PM, any of you and as I said, I am happy to meet up and prove I am not Gasdust, I know he’d partake in proving this. My concern is if you Mods are talking like this, who else are you talking about, this reminds me of the police officers recently sacked for having their own WhatsApp group. It’s ironic, you lot are getting complaints about aggressive behaviour and trying to police it and then gossiping about individuals, proper Banned word behaviour How are the mods supposed to discuss issues? Telepathy? Or just discuss it with no-one and ban people on a personal whim? |

I don’t think they’re claiming to be superior to anyone Jools, they’re just trying to do the job of moderating the forum as best they can - voluntarily too. I wouldn’t want to do it - f*ck that for a laugh . . . With a couple it’s evident, at least to me, a couple do enjoy a perceived sense of power. Anyway, back to wrapping presents. I definitely do. Bloody love banning people!  Even if that were true Jools, it's not possible. It's run by committee to stop anyone abusing their power or having a personal vendetta. The only person who is able to actually abuse their power is me because as the admin I can limit mod powers, revoke mod powers, create new Mods and even ban Mods. |

No gossiping. We have a message group where we discuss activity on the forum and agree how we tackle behaviour which brings down the forum. Ie is poster x acting in an antagonistic or aggressive way, does it warrant a warning or something more severe than that? It’s no more exciting than that I’m afraid. More often than not it’ll be like an example Russ was hinting at whereby an individual came to me concerned that more or less every thread is turning into a Barton debate, on the basis that they’re a bit sick of it and think it’s bringing down the forum. I completely agreed, and took it to the rest of the moderators so we could discuss what we do about it e.g having a single thread or moving the posts to a different part of the forum. We’re still figuring that out. Again, not so exciting I’m afraid to report. I don’t see how we don’t function without a “Banned word” group. Open to suggestions? I didn’t discuss the suggestion that gasdust == roadman in my post. But for the record we all know about IP addresses on the team and have access to tools which show which IP a user has been posting from. We don’t need an IT lesson. I didn’t discuss the suggestion that gasdust == roadman in my post. But for the record we all know about IP addresses on the team and have access to tools which show which IP a user has been posting from. We don’t need an IT lesson. As for group chat - again how do you suggest we moderate without it? I would have hit the like button but you know, ganging up and all that. |

As Trevor (Gasdust) just said and they admitted, they had no complaints about me or him, so why were they chatting about us/forum members? |

Not all mod actions relate to a reported post. Not all reported posts get acted on by a mod. It may be noted that a particular style of posting has caused an issue on the board in the past. So a mod may say, ooh I've noticed a poster who always calls others names. Remember when someone did that a few years ago and it caused nothing but childish arguments and ruined threads? Yeah, let's keep an eye on that so the forum stays usable for everyone. There are certain things that we may be hyper aware of and 9 times out of 10 we are able to either diffuse a situation before it starts or we are proved wrong and nothing happens. Occasionally a mod makes a mistake, apologises and we all move on. We are human beings. It's happens. |
