Most of us of a certain age group will remember the legendary German footballer. Undoubtedly one of the all time greats. RIP.

Truly a great player. He both played in and managed a World Cup winning team. As did Mario Zagallo of Brazil who passed away the other day. Sad times. I shall raise a glass to both of them this evening.

Very sad, truly one of the pioneers of the sport.
Seems like the end of an era, not too many of the greats from that time left.

A great player remember the 66 World Cup Final with his battle with Bobby Charlton I’ve heard them both mention in interviews that they were both tasked with man-marking each other by their managers and ended up following each other around the pitch! Good job we had Geoff Hurst !! I remember seeing footage of him (1970 World Cup think) playing with his dislocated shoulder in a sling because they had no subs left. Tough as well as classy!

Good job we had Alan Ball! Ran his socks off that day. Was still pretty amazing almost 20 years later for us! There was a wag in the crowd who used to shout "Beckenbauer" when Locks switched play with a great ball out to the wing. Not sure that is the greatest praise Der Kaiser ever rec'd, but I'm sure people of a certain generation knew what he meant. One of the true greats. RIP.
