At half time, I was talking with a fine chap who I speak with each game and he mentioned that without Collins, we looked like a cohesive unit again. He said he thought that the players had been too worried about including AC where not always necessary and it impacted our flow.
He is right. Without Aaron today, we looked far more like a team again.
Anyway, a wee bit too much to guzzle today, but Ward, Evans, Crama, Vale, Hunt and the absolutely sublime John Conteh...take a collective bow.
We were mint today.

GGMI, I guess you're a young chap/chapess...he will be known by our lot as John and indeed, many around us were calling him John today. Google will help.

I don't know if that is true per se.
Having Conteh in there freed up Evans to play more advanced which meant Thomas was used in Collins usual role.
In the past few games Evans has played deeper which drops Collins deeper as he looks to get on the ball.
Having a stronger back line helped too.

UTFG 🏴☠️💙 Yeah there seemed more unity. It also helped that with conteh there they couldn’t just penetrate the centre of our midfield at all, in the game v Exeter on Tuesday they seemed to just cut through us at will. A lot of the time contehs best work was just standing there he didn’t even need to make an interception or tackle because he was in the right position to block the passing lane so they had to take another route. It’s a shame Collins has gone the way he has for us but the Collins we’re probably losing now hasn’t been the Collins from 2022 at times it’s been like having 10 players without the ball so if we can get some money and use that to strengthen the squad then with the right deals we could come out of it stronger. One door closes and another opens.

Haha John Conteh!
Good op post.
There could be something in that. While we appeared to have temporarily broken the AC and Cox impasse, it might have had effect that everyone has made positive contributions across the board.
We're not so transfixed on AC or any one player.
...but we certainly do need to strengthen up the squad with experience and energy as we played with a pressing game and that will take his toll physically.

I was having this same conversation during the second half with the guys I stand near. There was 11 players out there fighting for each other.
John Coneh! This made me laugh.
Good to see some of the injured players back. We looked stronger.
