Watney Cup Final - I was there, the team each kicked a football into the crowd, autographed with a club badge stuck on it with plasters - I actually got one of them via “Bruce Bannister” front of the Tote End. Down side, stuck with a football up my ruddy shirt!! UTFG

Hope they are full of pride as it sits alongside their 2 (replica) old 1st division winners trophies.A bit pathetic for a club that also once reached the European cup semi finals.

They may take the Watney cup But they will never take the West Enclosure. Don't think they'd want it.

Yes I was there at Eastville when we beat Sheffield United I believe in front of a very big crowd. Don Megson was the manager and was presented with the cup in the old wooden stand that eventually burnt down. From recollection it was 0-0 and went to penalties and we won.Dick Sheppard was in goal and I think saved a penalty. And at the end there was a complete pitch invasion. We all thought that this was a vision of things to come. But was in fact another false dawn. Happy days though. Anyone else with memories of that game?

Last penalty that Dick Shepard saved to win the cup was from Ted Helmsley who was also a professional cricketer for Worcestershire.
Wonder why he was playing football that day as it was middle of summer?

Wonder why he was playing football that day as it was middle of summer? It was a pre season tournament with the two highest scoring teams from L1-L4 the previous season taking part. The promoted teams from each division were not allowed to take part.

Wasn’t the EFL trophy the Daf Freight Rover or something of that ilk, many years ago. Not considered tin pot all those years ago, think the tinpot came in after the introduction of the PL21 teams.

(1984/85–1986/87) Freight Rover Trophy (1987/88–1988/89) Sherpa Van Trophy (1989/90–1991/92) Leyland DAF Cup (1992/93–1993/94) Autoglass Trophy (1994/95–1999/2000) Auto Windscreens Shield (2000/01–2006/07) LDV Vans Trophy (2007/08–2015/16) Johnstone's Paint Trophy (2016–17 to 2018–19): Checkatrade Trophy (2019–20): Leasing.com Trophy (2020–21 to 2022–23): Papa Johns Trophy (2023−24 to 2025–26): Bristol Street Motors Trophy
Glad our only silverware wasn't the Sherpa Van Trophy!

I meant why wasn’t he playing cricket then? Think you will find he had been at Sheffield Utd for a few years then and was an established first team player. He played for them for ten years or thereabouts and the football at that time , especially as the season was about to start would have taken precedence over the cricket.

Wonder why he was playing football that day as it was middle of summer? The simple answer is Worcestershire weren't playing that day. I believe he was also an amateur at Worcestershire so football to precedent. Rovers have had plenty of cricketers feature for them, probably most notably Harrold Jarman, Barrie Meyer and Wally Hammond!

TBH I didn’t know we had a Trophy Room / Cabinet/ Shelf. There will be a massive trophy room in the new East Stand ready for our many future successes. Yep, just making room …
