Ok first and final warning. People can debate the political association to Rovers, but if you want to post politics you can do so in general chat or on another forum.

Think people are overreacting. The club had the Tory MP a few years ago wearing a rovers shirt to Parliament didn’t we? Honestly, as a Labour voter I’d have zero problem if the Tory candidate tried to do the same. They’re campaigning and the club is after publicity, as well as making connections. Why is that a bad thing? Simple really she was supporting us as a sitting mp to get the failed stadium redevelopment but was not an election issue. This is an election issue therefore saying the gas support labour! When it’s well known we want to develop the stadium now is this a sensible thing to do let alone annoying some fans! If it’s well known we want to develop the stadium, surely this is an excellent idea? Sorry but if fans get annoyed by seeing Starmer at the Mem then they really need to grow up. As I said, as a Labour voter I’d have no problem seeing Sunak at the Mem or seeing Starmer at Ashton gate tomorrow. Think you’re overreacting on this one mate

I look forward to Pirate’s Wishlist each morning. Some of the prospects he identifies look very exciting - particularly the African youngsters. However, I do wonder at the cost of bringing these guys here for trial. Travel and accommodation would not be cheap and if the club invited them they might expect us to contribute if not cover the expenses. A few of Pirate’s gems seem to end up at Peterborough so they either read this forum or have their own system of prospecting.they seem particularly active in the Irish league. As we are in the early days of George Friends operation I do wonder if he is starting with our own lower leagues/ Scottish Highland leagues as well as the Irish. Having said that, we’ve all identified our problem of not havig a development squad/reserve setup so we may not be an attractive choice for the better players.

I am genuinely scared for the future of the the UK if Starmer gets in ! Might find I have to follow the Gas from abroad We have just had 14 years of the most corrupt government in British history! And your worried about a barrister who has to be honest or he couldn't work! Point of order, a barrister has to lie, and lie well or he couldn't work !

As for keep politics out of football, good luck!

Would everyone have been ok with Boris turning up in 2019 and printing "Get Brexit Done" on the back of a Rovers shirt then?

Would everyone have been ok with Boris turning up in 2019 and printing "Get Brexit Done" on the back of a Rovers shirt then? That's the part of the visit which I think was ill-judged, allowing him to print the Labour mantra on a Rovers shirt. I wonder how far up the chain of command this went for approval? As regards the Tory MP in a Rover shirt, this wasn't during the build up to an election, when different "rules" are in place.

I like the irony of "net zero by 2030" Starmer in a photo with "Up The Gas" behind him! If that had been Rishi Sunak the left would be all over it!

A big part of the visit was to re-assure people that a Labour government would address the regulation of football and try to even up the balance of power with a proper regulator controlling the power of the premiership teams. This is a good thing and I can see why Rovers would want to support that. The current government said they would do something similar (although like many of their promises nothing was actually delivered). Judging by the opinion polls there is more chance of Starmer actually being in a position to do this - lets hope he does.
Nice for Rovers to feature in the national press rather than the red side.

Just for clarity Thingabyjig Debbiair is a sitting Labour MP for Bristol. She will almost certainly be after the General Election She has been supportive of Rovers recently, long before the election was called. Lets keep her onside Her "current role" is Shadow Sports Minister, hence one assumes her interest in Rovers although the stadium is not in her constituency. Will she, won't she be the Sports Minister in a Labour Government assuming they win the General Election? Having the potential future Prime Minister and Sports Minister visit your club is a massive bonus in terms of profile but IMO they were set up thinking the reason was to promote football and Rovers aspirations on and off the pitch The real reason for the visit was the PR stunt to print out the Election propaganda slogan on the Rovers shirt. absolutely nothing to do with football. Would be interesting if TG (or others) agreed to the shirt printing in advance in the belief it would help the club in Planning matters or not? Were the Gas stitched up in the spur of the moment ? Regarding Planning for the stadium it's planning law that gets things approved or not, not an individual MP

As regards the Tory MP in a Rover shirt, this wasn't during the build up to an election, when different "rules" are in place. To be fair, our owners are from Jordan & Kuwait - of course they’re going to favour Labour; they’re hardly likely to have “I stand with Israel” on a shirt bearing a Star of David, are they? This should never have been allowed, it sends all the wrong messages out and has effectively politicised the club

Yes it could of but given the current government have not delivered the promised football regulator perhaps change may help to get the job done. I guess it is rare for the likes of Rovers to get the chance to put forward what matters to a lower league football club to a potential prime minister - it is not really surprising that a bit of political point scoring came with it during an election campaign. As to our owners being more open to Labour because of the middle east, we could also argue they were more likely to favour the Conservatives as business men. I guess Labour were unlikely to get an invite over Ashton given their policy to clamp down on Tax dodgers

Only problem I can see is an awkward conversation between Farage and the Al-Saeeds about being sent home. Quite frankly, he should be sent back to Germany... 🤣

Just for the record, Ed Davey and the Lib Dems were at Yeovil Town the other day. We aren't the first, nor the last.
