What idiot at a sports club thinks this is good promotion for their club? On about splitting the clubs fanbase! Politics should have no place within sporting clubs! What's appears to be happening here is Labour are worried about losing to the Greens in Bristol Central so they are using the pretense of launching a new policy to ban breakaway leagues to win the votes of Rovers fans (why here exactly?). I feel like the club are being used for party political strategy and really should know better. It's objectively pretty shady regardless of our political allegiances. Fully agree with you! I don’t live in Bristol but obviously have a link in fact if I am honest the gas is the only link to my birth city that I care about. Looking at the bigger picture it also does not help planning etc if we are aligning with the Labour Party. Hustings yes but this crap no!

Agree with the majority that we shouldn’t appear to be endorsing any political party over another, but I’m also not gonna pretend that the Labour mayor and MP really did try and support the club with planning application approvals, whereas the greens as far back as the Sainsbury’s saga have tried to stop our progress and development at every turn.

I'm not sure so obviously supporting Labour is going to help matters in the future if the Greens do take Bristol Central.

I’ve heard Rovers new signing plays on the left wing… lol but in all seriousness even if it had been a Tory or green it’s still wrong! Yes I know we had Charlotte but that was over plans this is just pure vote material. Why would a professional club do something like this especially as we have foreign owners! Probably a question for them. Why is this something that is being pinned on Tom Gorringe again? Like ALS and WAQ wouldn't know. Don't agree with it though, it is one way to split the fan base for sure. Not sure there is anything for the club to gain from this either.

Think people are overreacting. The club had the Tory MP a few years ago wearing a rovers shirt to Parliament didn’t we?
Honestly, as a Labour voter I’d have zero problem if the Tory candidate tried to do the same. They’re campaigning and the club is after publicity, as well as making connections. Why is that a bad thing?

Why is that a bad thing? Simple really she was supporting us as a sitting mp to get the failed stadium redevelopment but was not an election issue. This is an election issue therefore saying the gas support labour! When it’s well known we want to develop the stadium now is this a sensible thing to do let alone annoying some fans!

But do we all think ALS and WAQ had no idea? If they didn't, that is far more concerning and they should get a grip!

I think it was only posted on the TG thread just to confirm that he is still at the club, not to suggest he organise the visit w/o the co-owners knowledge.

Not for this thread, come over to General Chat to discuss if you'd like. I understand why you would say that but and it’s a BIG BUT this just shows that it was a stupid decision to allow this feeling as it will split the fanbase. Aside from being fans, are we really that united in the first place for this to be that divisive? From ownership, managers, players we sign or don't sign, how to fund the club, what style of shirt we wear. Add to that some of the commercial aspects, whether we 'took the knee', Her Game Too, whether we stay at the Mem, build UWE, move to the FM. Crikey, we've even got two forums (or should that be fora?). Outside of social media, I doubt this will really cause any ripples.

The Greens are the threat to Rovers when it comes to ground development and parking etc.

A bit unfair on the club to criticise them over this. When I saw it I really didn’t think that it would cause any real mentions. Shame we didn’t sign a player today and then it probably wouldn’t even have been mentioned.
And let’s face it, most football clubs are ‘involved’ in politics in some way. I bet if we talked to those involved in the Community Trust and the initiatives they support they would be those that are talked about every day during this election. If football clubs are true community clubs they are political, they can’t avoid it.
By this time next week Starmer will have talked about how working class he is because his dad was a toolmaker about 10 times and Rishi will have made another questionable judgement. And we’ll all have something else to think about. FWIW a good to see the MP a showing we are at least on her radar. Perhaps. 🤔
