… starts with recruitment.
We need to build a squad capable of making the play offs.
Looking at the squad at the moment, the players we have who can do this, and stay fully fit are:
Anthony Evans Grant Ward Luke Thomas
And that’s it.
We’ve got a major rebuilding job this summer, and if the rumours of a cut in the wage structure is true, I can see nothing more than a repeat of this season, even if Mourinho fancied a spell in BS7.

Thing is to make the play offs we’ll probably need around a top 6 budget and I can’t see us having that with a stadium that holds 11,000 and pretty much no non Matchday income. If we were to release the likes of Taylor , Connelly, Hoole and Gordon it’s unlikely we’d be able to bring in better than those on the budget well have. Better to keep those kind of players , play them and coach them to get them more experienced and make them better players whilst adding a couple of decent strikers an commanding CD and some pace out wide in attacking areas. Ripping it up and starting again will probably see us with a similar sized squad with similar quality and the players won’t know each other. It’s also not as easy to say we’ll just keep 3 and change the rest. It’s not a computer game. Also I’m surprised you haven’t included Taylor and Conteh in your keep list.

Unless the owners want to guarantee a top 6 get finish then surely a top 10 budget would be sufficient, with the ground capacity around 12,000 and a proportion of the money from AC's transfer that seems entirely possible. I assume Hoole & Gordon plus possibly Sinclair/Ward have been offered contracts for next season this week, so it seems most of yesterday's squad will still be here next season. We just need to add quality L1 players to the squad not rip up the squad and start again then spend the first half of next season "gelling".

Under contract for next year we have :-
Matt Hall, James Wilson, Jack Hunt, Luke McCormick, Grant Ward, Antony Evans,
James Connolly, Jevani Brown, Luke Thomas, Connor Taylor, Kamil Conteh, Jed Ward.
I would expect Luca Hoole, Lewis Gordon, Scott Sinclair, Chris Martin to be offered new contracts, and possibly Josh Grant &
Jordan Rossiter. Baggott doesn't look much, so we may have a chance of keeping him
Need a lot of good players, and hopefully some with pace as we look slower than most teams we play.

I can’t see Grant being offered a new deal - on grounds of both lack of form and inability to stay fit. Rossiter is a possible on reduced terms/pay as you play - perhaps with some coaching responsibilities too? I’d let Sinclair go but try and keep Hoole, Gordon and Martin as squad players. The only loanee I’d welcome back would be Aguilera.

Not sure the teams coming down can possibly be stronger than Pompey, Derby, Bolton or Posh? Only Wrexham coming up are potentially a top 6 side, unless Stockport's owners are really going to splash their cash out. If we do lose 3 of those 4 teams the top 6 places could be wide open next season.

Could be Birmingham, Millwall, QPR, Sheff Wed, Plymouth or Hudderfield coming down, thats good teams. Stockport, Wrexham up this makes it harder for us next season so forget to 6.

Agreed mate. Would add Conteh to that list and maybe Jed Ward too.

It can't be all 6 regardless whoever comes down they'll do well to turn things around in the summer and become stronger challengers than the 4 I mentioned, who always seem to be in the top 6. I think you're the one who needs to forget top 6 if you think we'll be one of the teams given our present form under MT, being well clear of the bottom 6 seems a more realistic challenge.

Hasn’t really contributed enough goals and assists, doesn’t often beat a fullback with pace or a trick and I don’t really know what he is tbh. I don’t think he’s good enough to be an attacking player in the top two divisions and I suspect he’ll end up concentrating on being a wingback or maybe even fullback longer term. Can’t fault his work rate and commitment which has put some of his senior colleagues to shame. I think we can do better but I won’t be upset if he does come back.

I like the commitment he gives, and as you say eric puts some of his senior team mates to shame ! 💙

If we are paying any significant portion of his wages then he’s not worth. Like him but money can be better used. Baggott I wouldn’t mind back.
