Each year we have out of contract players that leave, and likely know in advance they are off, yet the club wait until after the season ends to announce departures. How people can say the club not announcing Sam’s departure with two games left to go as poor form is beyond me. He’s been a good servant and I wish him all the best, but to make out that we (or he) has been robbed of a grand farewell is a bit much in my opinion He may also have requested a quiet exit.

[quote source="/post/1008053/thread" timestamp="1713774512" author=" Rovers 12th Man" Fair enough, I personally don’t see it. Most of his set pieces are disappointing, if we use the thought that he’s as good as some think he is then surely if he’s not going to sign a new deal this summer we should be looking to sell him anyway? Unless we plan to let him walk away for free next summer. [/quote] Fair point. It really boils down to replacing him. Can the club attract the right player and are they willing to pay him.

Connolly miles away from being good enough, Rossiter is a good player but won’t stay fit. Evans a bit over hyped for me and if the rumours about his huge wage are true I’d hope the club moves him on. Hype? Rumours? Sound basis to work on. don't think Evans will be short of admirers in the close season.a goal scoring midfielder who is never injured.

But it is also a bit strange that he has done his farewells to the club before the season has ended and the retained list being announced along with the good bye and thank you post from Wael. Perhaps it isn't poor form from the club but it is odd that they have gone away from the norm for him.

Tom Lockyer announced he was leaving prior to our last game of the season in 2018/19, I see this as similar.

With Sam, this is (presumably) his decision to go public for his own reasons, at which point it Wael did the right thing and acknowledged (and if he didn’t reply he’d be criticised too!) I guess if he’s injured it might simply be him marking his last time with the group all together at a match. Simple as that

I think people are just getting their knickers in a twist over something minor. In due course I'm sure the right thing will be done.

Wael has just posted. Goodbye, good luck & thank you Why is it so hard for the club to communicate through official channels? Why is it always messages or tweets from Wael, or dm's with Tom Gorringe. Does my head in. Side note thank you Sam for all of your efforts in the quarters. One thing that could never be questioned is his commitment.

Sam was on the pitch at half time taking photos of his son, my instant thought was that he was off. Perhaps he had already informed the club and decided to put it out there before any official announcement or retained list in order to get ahead of the game in finding a new club.

The official channels would normally be the day the retained list is announced. I’m sure the club will have planned a thank you message on their social media for Finley and any others that are leaving - as they would normally do? I don’t think it will be any secret within the club about who is staying and who is going and Finley has just got in early himself - that’s fine and up to him. I don’t think the club have done anything wrong and were probably a bit surprised that Sam tweeted when he did.

The club made a bit of a song and dance about Lee Brown in his last home match before he left, making him captain for the match, now our actual captain is departing they don't even mention it prior to his last home game. What harm would it have done for MT to mention in his pre-match presser that Saturday would be Finley's last home game?

Love Finley. Absolute sh** of a player to play against, always niggling and winding opposition player up. Thanks for the good times and best of luck Sam 👏

To the point where he had his goodbye game at the last home game and didn't even play in the final game of the season which was away! It would have been nice for everyone to know Finley was off just before Saturday so at least the fans could give him some sort of farewell, even if he couldn't play.
