He’s a really good player, obviously confident he can get an equal or better deal elsewhere There's been no suggestions Finley's been offered anything to equal or better?

Hope Rossiter and Evans don't follow Heard Rossiter is on his way also. Both going Stockport I’d be surprised if anything was lined up already after he’s only managed what 3 halves of football following a year and a half out with a knee injury - especially after a career littered with knee related absences.

He’s a really good player, obviously confident he can get an equal or better deal elsewhere Whether he’s confident of getting a good deal elsewhere or not him leaving Rovers will unlikely have been his decision and he will have had no choice but to look for a new employer. He clearly fell out with MT quite sometime ago and was never really going to be offered a new contract while MT was our manager.

Indeed; and I know I’m probably being naive, given the mercenary nature of modern football, but you would kind of hope that he would give us at least an attempt at a full season as a Rovers player, given that the club’s been paying him whilst he’s spent so long out injured . . .

I'm hopeful the reason might come to light eventually, with a feeling it might not reflect well on MT.

Sorry to disappointed but I think the reason he is leaving is far simpler than some on here are suggesting. A few weeks ago I attended an evening with Geoff Twentyman etc at which Sam was a guest speaker. He talked about the difficulties of living away from home, his wife and young children, particularly when he was unable to return at weekends due to mid week games taking place. Whilst he didn't say as much, it was apparent to me that he saw the end of his contract as an opportunity to move on and to improve the quality of his family life. Sometimes we forget that footballers are human beings as well.

He didn’t quit. His contract is expiring in June and wasn’t extended for whatever reasons. What's that got to do with either post you've replied to?? It’s in the thread of “ Sam Finlay quitting” sorry topper I’ll be sure to run my comments by you firstly before posting squire 😂

Liike to know how you’d know that No, just saying there's nothing to say that we've offered him anything for him to better elsewhere, I wouldn't be surprised with his injury record and also seemingly being the Scouse Mafia leader we haven't decided to just let him leave.

No injury record to worry about he’s played over 100 games in 3 years, given the level of rebuild and the fact that he’s still decent I’d be looking to keep him for another year especially as he’s captain. MT has other ideals I’m holding my breath

Unless the players he's been picking are totally ignoring his instructions then it appears it hasn't got a clue about either.

Unless the players he's been picking are totally ignoring his instructions then it appears it hasn't got a clue about either. Or they just aren't good enough? Surely even you can see that we have limped to the end of the season, quite literally in some cases. When was the last time we couldn't select a striker? It's been the theme of our season. The problem is, Matt Taylor doesn't have selection problems. The team has literally been picking itself as there are no other fit players.

Then surely as manager you select your formation and tactics based on what players you have available rather than constantly trying to impose your own system onto players who are unable to play that way?

Then surely as manager you select your formation and tactics based on what players you have available rather than constantly trying to impose your own system onto players who are unable to play that way? Your response is absolutely logical but I'm not sure it works like that in football. You are assuming that all fit players are used to playing the same formation. Let's say that we have 4 defenders fit and two like to play in a back 4 and two in a back three. What do you do? Back 3 first half, back four second half?
