Collins form in the 12 months before leaving us and in the half season after leaving us leaves a foul taste in my mouth. However, I think it’s unfair to criticise him for celebrating against us. His celebrations are often excessive whereas his celebration scoring against us was mild in comparison. That’ll do for me. That’s how it should be done. If you want a player who is an example of being a dick after scoring against us it’s Luke Leahy who you’d have thought we’d have mistreated given the way he goes on. I mean if fans give it out they can't moan when they get a bit back. The faux-outrage after a bloke does a little celebration after folk have spent an hour calling him a w*nker etc is one of the funniest things about modern football. I get that but this is a guy who started here at an early age, said he loved the club and hoped he would be back again someday. Plus it was only a couple of months after he left. TBH I lost respect for him when he asked MT not to pick him

Conduct of players is a completely different kettle of fish.

Conduct of players is a completely different kettle of fish. AC had a huge amount of praise in that game. The only real dissent against him was when he tried his theatrical antics. Taking the example of Leahy again then if he was getting pelters at his first game back then other than a small handful of abusers I don’t think there would have been many giving him proper abuse as he was one of a few who tried during our relegation season. But he chose to behave like a dick before he truly got any abuse and celebrated the goal over the top. A clear case of him bringing the abuse on himself.

He was the captain, we wanted him to stay, he wanted to go, then celebrates every goal against us like he's won the FA Cup Weird guy - Barton did say he wasnt liked that much in the dressing room so maybe that has something to do with his dislike for us

No, but they get an extra £5m for the season just for being there. That will come in handy when calculating FFP for the following season. I doubt they can just bank the £5m as they'll need to strengthen their squad and also pay all the players additional wages? Managing the spend correctly will be the challenge. FFP doesn't apply in L1 it's SCMP at our level and that's based purely on turnover each season. You do make me laugh. Thanks for pointing out that FFP doesn't apply at our level whilst also reinforcing the point that I was making, whilst trying to argue the point that you then reinforced. Brilliant stuff!

Perhaps instead of being polite I should have just posted your wrong, as next season's income can't be taken into consideration in the following season's turnover.

Brilliant stuff! Perhaps instead of being polite I should have just posted your wrong, as next season's income can't be taken into consideration in the following season's turnover. I appreciate that SCMP applies to League one and that is based on Turnover. What I didn't realise is that it is based on the current year turnover: "The process is interactive with clubs providing the Football League with projections for the spending for the coming season. During the season the clubs provide regular updates on their Turnover and wage bill. Any club that is forecasting a wage spend within 5% of the figure will be scrutinised more closely. Where a club is on course to exceed the limits, the Football League will apply a Transfer Embargo. Crucially, a club doesn't have to overspend to incur the embargo, it only needs to shown to be heading for an overspend. This interactive approach enables clubs to increase their wage bill if their circumstances improve - a successful cup run will generate increased income and the Football League may be able to sanction additional wage spend. Because SCMP doesn't rely on the retrospective scrutiny of club accounts, it is also extremely effective at stopping overspend before the spending actually occurs (something that has been a problem for the Championship's version of FFP)." This completely explains why the wage budget is rumoured to be reduced significantly.

What does the South China Morning Post have to do with budgets?
Seriously though werent we prepared to smash our transfer record less than a year ago? Now we are watching the purse strings..

Maybe there was a discussion with JB and Wael that went along the lines of "If we are going to give it a go, we have to do it before the SCMP rules come in". Which maybe on reflection makes complete sense.

"FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. Loans from club owners are understandably not included in the Turnover figure as these would result in growing up club debts. In League 1 and League 2, a wealthy owner can therefore fund the club spending in a way that is not permitted in other divisions" www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.php

I assume JB sold a promotion dream to Wael and he somehow convinced the Al Saaed's to also back it, or he thought they were backing it until it came to sanctioning JCH's transfer!!

Has it always been based on the current year, rather than the previous year? If a team drops down from the Championship, it looks like their % is 75%, rather than 60%?

I can't recall it ever being suggested the rules were being changed, although it would seem odd to base one season's budget on the previous season's turnover anyway. It does seem relegated Championship clubs get the 75% allowance but they clearly still have to find the money to pay out that much, if we ever did that then our annual loss would be well over £5m based on the accounts just published!

Unless it's changed, all clubs must adhere to the 60% of turnover rules. The only exception for clubs relegated from the Championship is that they can exclude some players who are on long term contracts signed before the relegation season. As for the finances themselves, clubs forecast turnover and wages for the coming season with regular updates during the season.
