Division 1 is certainly a very competitive division and has frustrated many clubs which have either won promotion to or been relegated to the third tier. It is a sobering thought when one realises the amount of former Premiership and Championship teams who have really struggled to achieve a second tier return. Who would have thought the likes of Sunderland, Bolton, Portsmouth, Huddersfield etc, would be strugglers? Birmingham City will certainly have to enjoy a consistent season for a chance of immediate return. I remain hopeful Rovers will have a successful season. Up The Gas.

Three of the sides promoted from EFL League Two had the following Average Away followings in 2023/24.
Mansfield Town – 1179
NOT Notts but instead STOCKPORT County – 1056 (Thanks to Topper)
Wrexham – 1651
Crawley Town had a few hundred.
Some big games next season.
If only we had a new stand with seating to accommodate these clubs and the "big clubs" who have left the League above.

Is that a typo and you meant Stockport County or totally the wrong stat?
I'm surprised Mansfield had such a large away following as I thought they only averaged 5,000/6,000 at home?

Every season in L1 starts with clubs who have been relegated from the division above and promoted from the division below. 3 of the 4 teams promoted this season look particularly strong, you can only see Crawley being likely bottom 4 contenders. Plus the 3 coming down don't seem to have financial issues so probably no sides will start with points deductions this season, unless Reading still haven't resolved their ownership issues.

As things stand at the moment I can see us in a relegation fight from the 'off' -
Crawley are seriously backed by financially astute owners, happy to spend and I would be amazed if they don't finish above us.
Teams who we could be scrapping it out with I sense are ... Shrewsbury, Cambridge, Stevenage, Mansfield, Burton , Northampton and possibly Wycombe.
We all know how important the recruitment is and we will stand or fall by it.

My first guess at the final table, not going to put Reading anywhere as depends on ownership/fines/getting thrown out! We need to recruit well to get mid table
1. Birmingham City 2. Bolton Wanderers 3. Rotherham 4. Charlton 5. Huddersfield 6. Blackpool 7. Lincoln City 8. Barnsley 9. Stockport 10. Peterborough 11. Wigan 12. Wrexham 13. Wycombe 14. Rovers 15. Crawley 16. Mansfield 17. Exeter City 18. Leyton Orient 19. Shrewsbury 20. Northampton 21. Stevenage 22. Cambridge 23. Burton
n/p Reading

I always find it sad that instead of responding to what is intended to start a discussion, people feel all they can to is make silly comments. They have a place, but at least have the decency to respond to the point of the original post. I agree, the number of former premier league and championship clubs down on their luck increases every season. I suppose the 3 promotion places combined with the play offs and 4 going down mean there is always so much to play for, meaning clubs have more to play for for longer.

The teams coming up all have momentum and have good financial backing. The teams coming down will take the pick of the stand out league one players. The teams that missed out on promotion will go for it again and strengthen. Whilst we are almost starting again, new style of football, lots of new players. If we manage to avoid relegation then I think Taylor will deserve a massive amount of credit. Mid table will be a supurb achievement.

If you read the Birmingham forum they almost think they’re promoted already! Talking about being unbeaten at home and even overall. It’s quite funny. But it’s good that it’s not the size of the clubs that determine placings, it’s who wins most games, gets most points and there’s been lots of times when the minnows have come out on top. And Rovers have upset the odds on many occasions. No reason if the recruitment is half decent that MT can’t build a good team with spirit to challenge. Of the 3 teams who went up, Pompey, Oxford and Derby we got wins and it was only the Derby home that we disappointed in. I guess we’ll have a better idea when the contract offers to the 4 existing players have been decided and then again in August once we’ve completed our recruitment. Fingers crossed! UTG!

We always seem to do well against the fancied sides, we even beat Sunderland when BG was in charge even if it needed a bit of help from TC. It's beating the likes of Cambridge and Fleetwood we always seemed to struggle to do.
No idea what kind of budget Birmingham will have but if they are serious about spending £1B on a new ground then I'd imagine it'll be a decent one.
