We always seem to do well against the fancied sides, we even beat Sunderland when BG was in charge even if it needed a bit of help from TC. It's beating the likes of Cambridge and Fleetwood we always seemed to struggle to do. No idea what kind of budget Birmingham will have but if they are serious about spending £1B on a new ground then I'd imagine it'll be a decent one. I don't see Birmingham City as a massive club these days. Nothing to fear there. They've been in the doldrums for almost 10 years now. And talk of a 60,000 seat stadium is laughable.

Although Rovers are a small club I still feel with good recruitment progress will be made this season. It is harder for Rovers to progress in a low capacity stadium within a large city with rapidly increasing population. It is so frustrating not to have returned to the second tier for over three decades now! So many managers have come and gone with third tier their pinnacle. Championship football should have been highly obtainable for Rovers in a city the size of Bristol. Mismanagement and lapsadasical with players have also been a hindrance.

Talk of a 60,000 seater stadium for Birmingham City is hardly laughable if the club find the money to build one. The nation’s second largest city would certainly have the population to fill such a stadium. When Birmingham were doing well 30,000 plus crowds were the norm.

The development is not just about the stadium and certainly not focused on club football overall - although the club will massively benefit if it all comes to fruition. What I suspect they are looking to do is build a stadium for concerts in the midlands (a huge gap there), plus I suspect they have a plan to pinch some neutral games (ie playoff finals, even FA Cup semi finals and similar). Yes there are contracts and agreements in place for those things but they are not indefinite and have to be renewed at some point... I don't think they will get huge (ie stupid) investment in the playing side this year or next - they'd like to be back in the Championship sooner rather than later but it's not their immediate priority. If they are still stuck in League One in a couple of years as the new facilities are being built I would expect the stupid money to start flooding in then....

Bringing it back to League One next season. All the clubs are in that league for a reason, that's how the pyramid works. Yes some will spend more money than others. Some will have higher attendances than others. Every club will have different strengths, different weaknesses and have different priorities and different goals.
But we all play 46 games, once at home and once away against every other team. You get three points for every win and one point for every draw. So anyone saying it's a 'stronger' league one than normal isn't really considering that the three weakest clubs from the Championship got relegated and the four strongest clubs from League Two got promoted, whilst the three strongest clubs from this season got promoted and the four weakest clubs got relegated.
We won't have the biggest budget. We won't have the largest attendances. Maybe time to look back at our strengths in the past - make the Mem a difficult place for visiting teams to get anything and be difficult to break down away from home. Stop worrying about what the 23 other teams are doing unless it's their turn to try and beat us...

We're going to win this at a canter. Neigh 🐴 Less of the pessimism Marshy, or you'll end up with a horse's head in your bed.
