I’ve just found the team sheet for the first ever professional football game played on a Sunday. I attended the game between Nottingham Forest and the Gas on 6 th January 1974 in Round 3 of the FA Cup. Under the law then they were not allowed to charge an entrance fee but got round it by having to purchase a team sheet at 45p. It was the days of the energy crisis and we were all on a 3 day week. Gas lost 4 3. There were 4 games scheduled for that day and technically because Charlton had a 11.30 kick off they could claim to be the first.

Lost to Bournemouth 1-0 away in the League Cup following the 3-0 away win to Bournemouth the Saturday before. My friend and I went to every match (league and cup) home and away that season. What a season the highlight being the 8-2 win at Brighton.

Always live in hope & have had some great rides along the way, but mid table L1 is a par score during that time.
