How far will the Bristol Rovers FC first team have to travel for the Away fixtures in the 2024/25 EFL League One season?
In total : an approximate 6,443 miles.
This is roughly 280 miles per fixture on average.
This is a fairly normal scenario for Bristol Rovers. Some seasons the travelling is a little closer to 7,000 miles.
Birmingham City have the least distance to travel on average next season : 191 miles per game with an overall total of 4,384 miles.
Exeter City have the furthest to travel on average in 2024/25 : 411 miles per game with a mammoth 9,455 miles in total.
Does this give Birmingham City a distinct advantage? Are Exeter City hampered by their long distance travelling?
Only Charlton Athletic, Crawley Town, Blackpool and Exeter City will travel further than The Gas for their 23 Away league fixtures next season.
Apart from Birmingham City, the other sides who will travel the least are Burton Albion, Mansfield Town and Northampton Town.
What are the implications of being a team that has to travel long distances?
Carlisle United and Plymouth Argyle, together with their supporters, deserve our respect for their superb numbers in Away fixtures.

Well collected Sir T. I suppose the extreme geographical teams will always have further to travel, so no surprise there. And the teams in the Midlands like Birmingham, Walsall and Northampton will have the least distance to travel. Again no surprise. But am surprised that Argyle aren’t higher than Exeter given they are even further away. I guess it’s to do with divisions having a higher percentage of northern teams or southern teams can sometimes make a big difference. Iirc last season Carlisle took more away fans to their matches than we did and were in top 7/8 of the division. So, yes, they certainly deserve respect.
UTG!

Recall being on Police duty at Vale when Argyle travelled there in great numbers.Loads of Vale fans left early despite winning but there were no green clad Muff supporters leaving early after their long journey.Always surprised when fans leave before the final whistle as they won't be sure of the final score. At Eastville as a 15 year old I had to leave early to get by bus to Totterdown to do my paper round!!!!!!!! In the Conference the Gas travelled to Altrincham on the day of the match but a pop festival near Wolverhampton caused major delays on the M6 but they did make it on time. Also recall that day(Ryan Brunt was awful) the home team had to make a late change as one of their players couldn't get time off work!!!! Welcome to the Conference!!!!!!!!!!!!!
