Having had a company car and thus not had to think about this situation for 10+ years I'm a bit out of the loop so hoping for some advice.
Criteria as follows:
- absolute max budget 20k, but ideally would be more like 12k-15k. - I have the money in my account so I'm guessing paying outright would be better than any form of PCP etc but happy to listen to advice? - Not a badge snob so happy for anything, in terms of size basically something medium ie. Peugeot 208, VW Golf, Kia Ceed, Ford Fiesta etc. Want petrol and cheap to insure/tax etc. Can't see I'd need anything more than 1.5l - No more than say 30,000 miles on the clock. I'd say no more than 4 years old, but wondering if something from say 2018/2019 might be good value as people would've been doing a lot less miles in 2020-2022 because of Covid?
So yeh any advice on where to go (main dealers/smaller dealers/available car/car supermarket etc and what people would go for in my criteria.
Any help massively appreciated!

I really like the newish Peugeot 208. A good friend of mine bought a 2022 model a few weeks ago and she loves it. I've been in it too and think the stylish exterior and high tech interior are hard to beat. Drives well too. It's not a luxury car but it's very well equipped and good value.
If I had any criticism I'd say the boot space is a bit on the small side but still ample for a few large suitcases.
Also the Fiesta is hard to beat. Now it's been discontinued used prices are tumbling. It's a rock solid little car with all the bugs ironed out. The hybrid version has tons of kit and gizmos and you'll barely need to fill it up.

Obviously im in the car game and had this across my desk last month. You say you arent a badge snob and dont need PCP but last month Mercedes Benz had an amazing deals on all C class estates, minimal deposit and 5% finance terms. A mate of mine went for one, £5k down over 3 years at £400 a month. Absolutely peanuts for a brand new car.

I don't agree. £4,800 year over 3 years equates to net cash outflow of of £14,400 plus £5,000 down equates to a £19,400 cash write off for something you won't own for a badge and a bang average vehicle.

Hi guys! Here are some tips based on your criteria: Budget Car Options Where to Buy Main Dealers Smaller Dealers Car Supermarkets Online Inspection Negotiation Good luck with your search! Yes but what about the fuel consumption of the new Tesco Subway 6inch. Should I go for that over the Unilever Natwest Premier Reward account? I heard depreciation is important...

Personally I would stay clear of an electric car.

Personally I would stay clear of an electric car. Yeah, don't stick your fingers in that charging lead. 😜
