Could not believe it but just found big Scott was killed recently on a night out.
Hendy was part of the great Mighty Mangoes team of the 90s featuring the like of ex City and Rovers players like Seal, Claridge, Pendry, Bater, Zabeck and his centre back partner (whose name escapes me, but played around 200 games in the Scottish Prem and Championship) when they were Bristol's 3rd highest ranked team.
Pretty sure he must have had trials at Rovers at some stage.
Was a true club captain who certainly got stuck in. A sort of enforcer with the management team of Andy Black and Shaun Penny being sort of winners in the Rotherham Evans type mould.
Must have been absolutely horrible to play against, but the the first to shake hands and put an arm around the opposition at the final whistle.
Taken away at such a young age. Commiserations to Scott's family and friends.
RIP

It's a tragic story but I can't see it is in any way Rovers related.

Sad news. I watched him a few times and yeah like OP said would have been horrible to play against and was a very good captain for Mangotsfield.
I'm sure he would have been on Rover radar (possibly in the youth set up?) and would definitely played against Rovers in pre season friendlies and would have had lots of ex Rovers players as team mates.
I know a few Rovers fans who don't have a "second team" in the Prem, but when Rovers are not playing take in games at Mangotsfield or Yate.
There has been a longstanding Rovers/Mangotsfield connection with Penrice, Tanner and Purnell (a bit before my time, but also Steve White?) learning their trade there before joining Rovers and the Gas Girls and I think the reserves have played at Cossham St.
Personally I think it would be good for Rovers to reconnect with local clubs like the Mangoes and Yate, to try and unearth new talent. (I think Vardy and Matty Taylor would have played at that sort of level early in their careers).
Different world now, but the likes of Mark Johns, Badock and Meacham etc got chances.
Ps, Hendy's centre back partner was Gary Warren who played for Newport and Inverness Cally Thistle and had a pre season trial with the Gas featuring in a few friendlies.
RIP Scott
