Something is mentioned by a new signing today that is widely acknowledged in the football world among managers and coaches.
At times, small groups of Bristol Rovers fans at matches can get hyper-critical, frustrated and impatient with the players, the coaching team or the style of play. In the process a negative atmosphere can be created which opposition players and staff feed upon.
Ruel Sotiriou said in his first interview today:
“I cannot wait for my first time on the pitch at The Mem as a Rovers player. Every single time I’ve visited The Mem as an opposition player, the team talk has centred around quieting the home crowd as quickly as possibly because of how loud and supportive the fans are. To be on this side of it now is really exciting and it will be great to play for the Bristol Rovers fans.”
For some Bristol Rovers supporters it might be worth bearing this in mind when the going gets tough in the season ahead.
Fine margins?

To be fair alot of sides done good job keeping the fans dead quiet. Maybe there is something in that.
Be good if atmosphere was much improved next season.

One of the issues with the new stand is that it has changed the atmosphere and will continue to do so. obviously some people from thatchers have moved down there fragmenting the numbers and opponents fans can be heard more . I think that it is important not to give the bigger clubs too many tickets and our fans settle down into their new seats and that a “ new” atmosphere is all we to build . The fan base has been divided over t(e last few years but things are now uniting - well for the moment anyway- until we have a bad run anyway

They were making more noise than our fans. But perhaps our fan base needs to be a bit livelier aswell. There were a lot of games where it went almost silent.

Problem with the atmosphere is the lack of imagination.
No wonder it’s rubbish when all people wanna do is try and belt out Irene and when the gas go marching in 20 times a game.
- We’ve hardly got any for the players - All other songs are sung at 200 mph - No spur of the moment, spontaneous ones off the back of a certain situation.

Best ever was at Burton when we had a brilliant opera singer in our end.Worst was at Morecambe when the only incessant chant all game was ,Johnny Wards Blue and White Army. Eliot Richards header.1-1.Steve Parkes skipper.JJ played.

In the East stand last year. Thought that the new stand kept the noise in. Thatchers chants almost echoing and really added to the atmosphere. A few games where some of our fans originally from the Thatchers where seated close to the away fans just made the atmosphere a bit uncomfortable rather than loud/intimidating. As for the range of songs, pretty poor. Needs a full Irene for starters

Needs a full Irene for starters also in east stand and agree with this. with season ticket holders now in the stand and supporters finding their places it shoudl settle and pockets of atmosphere appear. As always, if we play exciting football, then the atmosphere will be great. First game of the season optimism plus 2.5hours more drinking time should be a good start. Get your tickets!!

Of all the new signings now and in the past, many refer to the great atmosphere at the Mem.
That's just post-signing 'saying what's expected of them' isn't it?
Does anyone actually think the Mem atmosphere is that fabulous? I don't think it's bad compared to some other grounds I've visited but honestly nothing really special.

[br It can be very intimidating at times, and yes when the good times are good we can make some noise. A lot of players, managers comment on the atmosphere.

Gareth Ainsworth after his Wycombe beat Coughlan's Rovers 1-0: "I call this a proper football club, it’s a historic football club with big, big support – you get this place rocking, people know about it and away teams know about it. So they have that advantage."

I think that, on the whole, it is a good atmosphere compared to quite a lot of clubs in Leagues One and Two. A player told me that the Blackthorn in full song does lift the players that extra little bit, and playing for a club with a noisey fan base is much better than playing for one with a half empty stadium every week.
