After all the players we have signed i feel at present the glass is half filled in that we have loads of defenders but very few attacking players and options.I feel we are still two strikers short and maybe an attacking midfielder and winger as well. Do you think we are likely to see four more signings come in to balance defenders and attackers in the squad. I have to say that I am reasonably happy with the recruitment so far but would prefer a squad with a more attacking balance. Still hoping for a few more in but we've three weeks to go till the start so there is plenty of time. I was dreading this window with all the talk of a much reduced budget and the emphasis on young players- it had all the signs of the Ben Garner season. When it comes down to it the season could well be decided by the quality of the final three or four signings and if they are attacking players. What are your thoughts?

I think we all know that we need at least 4 attacking players to balance the squad. It's been said by lots of managers that it's more difficult to get value for money in the windows with attacking players. We added Hutchinson and Satoriou early which was a positive start. A box to box midfielder, winger and 2 strikers needed. Have a feeling 2 of which will be loans. We all want the squad in place now but think we'll have to be a bit patient.

Selling Collins and Evans we have lost two players with not only the ability to create goals but score them as well. It really is going to be a massive task to replace them. Personally I'm more concerned about getting a player who can play a key pass, create, cut defefences open. We've signed some promising players, the lad from Walsall, but it's always a gamble with the step up in standard. In my opinion we are three or even four attacking players off being competitive.

I hope he is not depending on Brown to be our main goalscorer, because he was a massive disappointment last season.

Martin was our main goal scorer last year and he is still here :-) Would be lovely if Brown showed more of his Exeter form as would be like a new player - hopefully a full preseason helps. Agree Evans is going to be missed though.

Hutchinson is Evans' replacement, and it looks like Sotiriou as a LF cutting onto his right foot is our Collins replacement. We'll add on top of that too, with a #9 to challenge Martin and some wingers I'd expect, but we aren't far off.

Looks good so far but without those attacking options which give a balanced squad what we’ve recruited may not look so good. ‘20 squad (BG) looked good when recruiting but without the forwards to score we got worse and worse. Don’t think it’s like that now but we really do need at least one striker, if not two. UTG!

Key differences I'm seeing between Taylor's summer recruitment and Garners are that BG signed a lot of academy U23s with no experience. Hutchinson, Senior, and Conteh all good ages and had full seasons in L2, and were the star player at each of their clubs. Sotiriou top goalscorer for Orient too. Lots of BGs signings such as Daly, Ayunga, Harries, Barrett had never played a minute of league football. Only ones that fit a similar criteria were Ehmer (won POTS at Gills in L1) and Hanlan (Gills top goalscorer) and both those flopped. So it doesn't always work out, but happier we are recruiting more in the pocket of proven players in the EFL.

We are definitely talking to at least three .. trouble is so are a lot of clubs.
MT is being very open and honest with players telling them about his planned style of play - High press and lots of running is not for everyone.
Confident we will have one at least soon…

As you say, they were young players with potential, but none of them had really done anything to actually prove their potential. I often see Westbrooke cited as the example. He came with hype but reality is he was a bench warmer for a promotion team who clearly didn’t live up to that hype. The players we’re signing now were star performers for their clubs, not bench warmers that fans thought could have something to offer.

Another Garner difference- I don't think we'd of just released Tony Craig.
The gaffer has continually paid respect to experience.

It is not really fair to compare this summer's signings with BG, as the budget spent seems, thankfully, vastly greater.
You do have to wonder how BG/TW/MS(?) ever thought they could put a reasonable squad together with such a limited budget.

Will Evans would be nice, but doubt we could afford him If we cant afford a 27 year old from Newport in his final contract year, then imo we really should be plying our trade in L2
