Enjoyed seeing all the new players , team sheets would have been handy though, very little catering , long queues to get in, were the club caught out by numbers? fantastic turn out by Janner's, well done them, hope they had some catering at their end, if not ,very poor. Plymouth have some talented players but very dodgy at the back! Think we looked good and will have good season.

Have 44, Shaw and Connolly done enough to be part of the squad? I think so. Another striker and that squad will do for me on the evidence I’ve seen watching the last three games. Both are young enough to be part of the squad but not count towards the senior player squad limit.

Kofi shaw needs to be in the match day squads from day one. Time we believed in our youngsters when they are good enough This 100% Outstanding performance. Defending, winning the ball, building attacks, he had it all last night. A pleasure to watch.

Dare I say it, Griffiths looks the part. Their £3 million plus rated keeper looks very dodgy. Their keeper was wonderful entertainment all evening. Distribution was abysmal, and looked scared to death whenever he had the ball at his feet.

Distribution was abysmal, and looked scared to death whenever he had the ball at his feet. That was due to our high press. He got caught out once by Thomas and then poo'd his pants every time he had the ball after that. Reminded me of when Sinclair single handedly took on Swindon Town.

It was my first time seeing the new squad in action last night and a few points from me...
First one for me is when I saw the team we put out, I was disappointed as I wanted the team we put out last night to be as close to the team we would put out for the first game of the season and I didn't think Connolly, Shaw, McCormick, the trialist and possibly even Hunt wouldn't be in that team, but several of them metaphorically shut me up.
Shaw and McCormick in particular were fantastic. Shaw looks a complete box to box midfielder who loves a tackle and played some very good passes. He knew when to sit back and when to join the attack and looked a complete midfielder. There are rumours of MT wanting to bring in another midfielder but for me, Shaw could easily be that and more. And a shout out for McCormick too, I wouldn't have been too upset had he left this summer but again, he was brilliant. His work rate, his pressing and his passing were all top notch and he wasn't afraid to have a go at goal either. I am not sure what his best position is still or where he fits into this formation that MT is favouring but his performance last night shows he at least has a space in this squad and maybe even in the starting eleven. MT must think so too as he gave him the armband last night over the likes of Taylor and Lindsey.
Second point is the fitness and pressing of the whole squad, but in particular the attacking players. They hunted down the Plymouth defenders in packs, didn't give them a moments peace and were doing it the entire time they were on the pitch even in hot conditions. Will they maintain the same when we won't have 8 substitutions to bring on so they know they are only playing 60 minutes? Who knows. But it bodes really well and is much more exciting to watch.
Thirdly is Griffiths. I knew we were getting a good keeper as no-one has that many appearances as a keeper at his age as a keeper and you don't get universal praise from fans and management from your own club without having something about you but this guy is class. His reflexes and shot stopping are up there with the best keepers I have seen in my 20 odd years of watching Rovers. He is the sort of keeper that wins you matches and we should really appreciate him this season as I would be amazed if we get him for any longer than that.
Lastly, I don't know enough about Plymouth to know if the team that put out was a strong team so I did some research at half time last night and was somewhat surprised to learn that 7 of their 11 started their last must win game last season and the other 4 are new signings over the summer. This wasn't a weakened Plymouth team and in that first half, we were excellent against them. I won't get carried away by a 60 minute performance in a pre-season friendly but I am liking the team MT is building, the formation he is playing and the work ethic of the squad assembled and whilst we still need a couple of additions, particularly up front, this could be a positive season. Just a shame that we are looking good in pre-season just as the league has never looked so difficult!

I'm the last year of his contract and they will still get £3-5 million for him.

Shaw been good in pre season he'd benefit from a season loan in someone's first team rather than ocasionally making the bench in the league.
Liked the trialist (44) we should sign him as we could do with another winger!

Highlights - if the link works I wasn't at the game so maybe it was different but looking at the highlights it was all them. I think our "highlights" were the two goals and one near miss at the end. Our keeper must've made 10 brilliant stops to keep them out.

I was at the game & can assure you those highlights are unjust on how well we performed, fair enough Argyle had quality players as you would expect from a championship team & carved out chances, but found our keeper on top of his game. Positives for me were, besides our keeper, McCormick is starting to look like the player we hoped for, all action display mixed with quality, Promise is a player we’ve missed upfront for a longtime, strength & pace , certainly going to give defenders a hard time. Only second time I’ve seen him play, but Kofey Shaw looks like we’ve got a real prospect coming through & I’am sure he will be around the first team squad this season, onwards & upwards.

Our keeper must've made 10 brilliant stops to keep them out. I watched the live stream, we had several chances that weren’t shown, several quick breaks and regains of possession high up the pitch due to the press and their jittery defending/passing out of defence, and despite the disjointed nature of the performance after the substitutions Sinclair must wonder how he didn’t get a double if not a hat trick. Overall I would say we were more consistent than them in that in both attack and defence we were about a decent League Two standard. Plymouth’s attack was top end league one but their defence was schoolboy level. We learned what we already knew, we’ve got a squad of honest hard workers and most of them have a good engine and a team ethic to do the tough stuff, blocks and recovery runs but we’ll struggle to score enough goals even when you throw Martin and Sotiriou into the conversation…got to acquire the “point to the spear”…but get the right player in and I think that would inspire the other squad members to up their game even more as they’d know the top end of the pitch could do the business. This quote from Wayne Rooney reflects better how the game went…”We were taking too many touches, it was too slow, we weren't moving the ball quick enough and within 20 minutes we could have been 3-0 down from giving the ball away and making mistakes."…and remember our second goal came well after that first 20 minutes.

Looking at the highlights and peoples view I'm concerned that Griffiths was kept busy. I'd be happy with match reviews saying that he had little to do but what he did do he did well. Plus the occasional world class save.

Plus the occasional world class save. The Plymouth front three all looked the real deal at Championship level. Massive, strong fast & forced the overload on numerus occasions. We won't face three big men in one team that often in league one if at all. Our midfield was miles better than theirs. Midfield & our press from the front was where we won the game.

If Macca's preseason performances are any thing to go by I think he's going to be the player to watch this season

Just watched Matt Taylor’s post match interview, it sounds promising at this stage. One thing how long have we had lights on the east stand? I’ve not seen them before (I don’t think)

Plus the occasional world class save. On another day the opposition would have (and should have) scored 3 or 4. Same defensive problems as last season - poor marking, positioning, not tracking runners, caught with simple balls over the top and unchallenged headers on edge of six yard box.

The two photos were we were playing towards the Thatchers End were when Wilson was on the pitch so hardly surprising we had the same issues as last season, after last nights performance it's clear Wilson isn't good enough. Most of the other photos highlight the issues with the LWB in the first half, No44 is clearly a winger not a WB. The one in front of the East Stand was an odd one as it looked like the ball was going out of play.

Highlights - if the link works Keepers made some great stops there but we looked good for the win but slow reacting to the through ball in the 2nd half. Who was the defender didn’t get close enough / close down the shot and turned his back to the goal ?
