It would be a much more sensible for the transfer deadline to be the Thursday night before the first match of the season. If this was the case then all teams would start off with their squads completed and then that would be it till the January deadline. IMO they should even follow this rule for Managers too. Doing this would also make players who are out of contract more likely to make sure they had a club by the first match.

Doing this would also make players who are out of contract more likely to make sure they had a club by the first match. 30 August is the deadline across most, if not all, of Europe ,I doubt it'll change as a L1 club wants it moved back a fortnight or so. I've no idea what you mean about managers given that we've got few a fair few mid transfer windows over the years. The January window would be a nightmare as any new manager would probably only be appointed when the window was virtually already closing. |

The best part of the transfer window is the Gas Chat melt down at the end of August when a fax to sign a player only goes through one minute after the deadline!
