One might argue that the first past the post system is completely undemocratic. I don’t care either way, it doesn’t affect me. Just saying Reform got way more votes than Libs but far less seats. That isn’t fair and it wouldn’t be the case in most countries. Fair point but Reform got 4 million Labour got nearly 10 million. You may not like it but that is the democratic process . And remember this was agreed by Winston Churchill who supported democracy against the totalitarian rule of Marxist and Facist. Anyway I believe in ' freedom of speech' even if it challenges my views and ideologies. What I don't accept is anarchistic behaviour. Starmer have been too soft. He needs to act now !. I would say the same if anarchist was trying to undermine a right wing government. National security comes first !. There is a big difference between freedom of speech and incitement. With the right to free speech comes responsibility. Out of interest, what should Starmer be doing that he isn’t?

The point is these people feel they are not being listened to and they are upset about how they feel the police treat groups differently. To be fair to them nobody was ever asked if they agree with millions joining the country each year. That’s what GE are supposed to be for, but none of them achieved anything. So these people now feel that they need to stop legal protests and take to the street instead to voice anger. They’ve tried peacefully protesting and voting and such and it doesn’t achieve anything. Attacking people and burning down buildings is nuts though and I not help their cause in any way. Millions? Net migration last year was apparently only 685k - and bear in mind we welcomed a good number of Ukrainians over since the Russia invasion: Unless you are talking about residents of the UK having so many children - in which case; I agree - I feel like a protest.. now where do I loot first? Lush or Greggs? PS. Sorry to hear your GE vote didn't achieve anything. Vote harder next time. Fair enough I had a quick glance at the ONS which said over 1 million. 600k is still a lot! Considering nothing ever gets built or improved to sustain that amount of people.

I am Liberal on protest (peaceful) but acts of violence like looting: Arson: robbing buildings: burning cars is an act of anarchy. Its gone too far now. Although I voted for Starmer . I think he's been too weak in protecting the emergency service . He's shown hesitantly in defending law and order. Few countries would put up with the stick emergency service workers get and the ' freedom ' rioters get picking themselves through goods and other peoples possessions .

I agree with others that this should go to General Chat. It's not about Rovers games any more and I can guarantee it won't end well.
To be fair it often doesn't end well on General Chat, but it's already being discussed there and there's a bit more freedom to express opinions.
This topic will divide people who want to talk about football, not politics and it's not the right place.

It’s such a sad world we live in today , it’s difficult seeing people living in fear and being scared of wanting to be who they are through fear of discrimination and persecution , whether it be , Muslim , gay , trans , ethnicity ,etc . let’s be honest with the riots , a lot of , if not the majority from what we’ve seen are just thugs looking to cause trouble and harm , it’s the police I feel sorry for and the general public who are just trying to go about their everyday lives. I just try to see things from both sides of the debate , yes ILLEGAL immigration is a very serious issue in terms of the relevant checks not being carried out and thus allowing potential criminals into the country BUT the majority aren’t , imagine being that scared and afraid that you would put yours and your dear families life in the hands of illegal trafficking gangs in the hope for a better life that you’d literally get in a rubber dinghy and cross dangerous waters ! To then be greeted by scum setting fire to migrant hotels, welcome to merry old England.

My wife is in the Police force, she informs me all leave has been cancelled, so the Police should be near full strength and there should be no need to cancel a low category game, where most of the protection will be supplied by stewards not Constabulary police . Who's picking up the McDonald's? Haven't had a McDonald's for over thirty years , round our way it is Greggs. If you need a Police Officer Greggs is the first port of call.

So Jenrick and Cleverly say Starmer is ‘not being proactive enough,’ but no suggestion of what he should do. Easy, lazy criticism. Apart from magic a hundred thousand extra police officers out of thin air, what do you think Starmer should be doing?
