See all the forum championship managers are out in force! Yesterday was poor but I wonder how many people actually watch the games rather than just look at results and match stats? I also wonder how many people did the - it’s Wigan who are below us in the table and had only won 1 of their league games and felt therefore we should be spanking them without considering the fact that they’re a big club, with decent players and are in a false position….look at Bolton for example - they’re currently bottom 4! Does everyone expect us to spank them!?
As someone else said, 1st half was pretty even overall with the only difference being that they took their chances and we didn’t ours -it was 2 set pieces. For those criticising Griffiths, he did make mistakes but also made some outstanding saves… Their 3rd goal, he made 2 point blank saves and then on the 3rd time of asking it was tapped in as instead of flicking up to our player on the line it went to their forward…
The comments re LT - he is not just a winger, he had a really successful spell playing wingback for us previously and Barnsley played him through the middle so he is versatile. He has energy, speed, skill, tenacity and tackles which is all the attributes you want from a wingback…
for those saying there is no improvement from last year - quite frankly that’s utter b#ll%cks! There’s better pressing, more movement, more energy and more directness. You lot need to take your pessimistic blinkered specs off.
And for the person who says you never make subs at half time then you can’t have watched much football as there are many occasions where you do just that - you realise you’ve got the shape or starting line up wrong based upon what you’ve seen first half, you want to change personnel as you’ve seen something that you want to take advantage of, you have players carrying knocks or fatigued so you manage their load and a whole host of other reasons…. Also making subs at half time allows you further opportunities in the game.
Yesterday was a poor performance overall but the knee jerk reaction by the keyboard championship managers on here is farcical and using stats from last season to try and prove points is again a weak argument as last season was a team who had 3 different sets of coaching mentalities, 3 different main styles of play, personalities who warmed to certain mangers and ‘toy throwed’ when they things didn’t happen how they wanted, lived so far away training was disrupted and were low on morale…. You’d have to be a miracle worker to turn all that round!
We are so early into the season with a young and relatively inexperienced group so it’s going to be inconsistent.
We just need some patience and to SUPPORT this team and players and not have the knee jerk meltdowns as soon as something doesn’t go our way. It’s a big ask from many on this forum I know!

The majority of clubs will have a heavy home defeat at some stage. It is plain to see this largely inexperienced squad will need time to gel, apart from setbacks and gaining confidence! As I have mentioned previously it will be around ten to twelve games before the team finally gel with consistent performances. UTG. There's zero signs of it gelling, it's pointless to suggest something will get better in X games time without any signs of improvement, unless Ward can get himself fit and remain fit we don't have the players to gel. Once again we've got a mismatched squad, we've been calling out for a dominant CH for years and strong experienced CM's but have none in the squad. Added to that we've now no experienced full backs, unless MT settled his differences with Hunt and he also stays fit whilst at least Moore is suspended. We've followed the BG blue print in the summer and are now getting similar results. No idea why we only have JG as our 1st team goalie this season, there's no logic in that decision. The basis of Gerry Francis promotion team gelled in March 88. Pretty sure we got hammered several times in 87-88. Thank God there was no gas chat then! What is it with the modern world where we expect instant success? IMO its a 3 year plan, with tweaks each transfer window. Mid table, then top 10, then play offs.

He'll do well to be here in 3 months if we carry on like this. I'm not looking for instant success but fsr we have players who cannot find a teammate from 10 yards. Also a system which allows the other side free headers from corners and double attacks from set peices! Tippy tappy sideways play to dominate possession is useless(for us), every team we've played has created too many simple chances and it's not good enough at all. Attendances will drop now and people behind the scenes will be whispering. Yesterday was not a freak result as the writing was on the wall beforehand-we are poor.

Also making subs at half time allows you further opportunities in the game I presume from this you mean me? What I actually said was this….. I will never understand a manager who makes subs at half time. He’s basically saying I can’t help you with any information or expectation and so I’ll just swap players and see if one’s better. You rarely if ever see the best managers do it. It screams “I dont know how to improve this”. The essence of managing / coaching would be to identify how that player can improve and how the team can improve by doing certain things better and then to give them the opportunity to carry that out. And I stand by it. I don’t understand it and it screams desperation and it screams I don’t know how to help someone. It also hangs players out to dry by your actions rather than your words so any manager standing there afterwards saying “this one’s on me” and trying to take the blame, dragging people off at half time contradicts that and fan perception is evident. FWIW I’d ask did it improve us at all? Because I agree with you in that I didnt think first half was THAT bad (corners apart). There needed to be some reorganisation and redirection with our out of possession shape and responsibilities but ultimately I don’t think there’s any doubt that we got worse after the half time changes as opposed to better.

From the BBC results page "Why on earth did you ever give Taylor the job he tore the guts out of Rotherham, such a dull man full of excuses" MT seems to be doing something similar here now, the worry is GF and the VP have no prior experience at this level to realise.

Maybe we are better off without plastic whinging fans.

Just six games into the new season and there is already disillusionment, anxiety and alarm bells. Many thick-head Gasheads must realise this is a work in progress, as told repeatedly. Crikey! Even Bolton Wanderers conceded four goals at home!! I could understand the alarm bells if Rovers were in the bottom three and eight or nine points adrift.

I think i must be too old to understand the present game that football has become. I was thinking that the aim this seas0n was to pressurise the opponents but so far havent seen much pressurising in numbers at all, I have seen a team set up to defend rather than attack and prove that they cant! I am afraid I was brought up in a game where it was the keepers job to take crosses in his six yard box but there are very few that do that, Is it just me or can somebody tell me why we have eleven players back for corners and yet still this is an area where the opposition seem to score most goals against us.IMO if you leave three players up when defending a corner you will straight away reduce the number of players in the area by at least six players and make an easier route for your keeper to actually control fis area and give yourselves someone to kick the ball to instead of when we do clear it ,it comes straight back.
I think the criticism of Hutchinson is a bit unfair- how can a bloke who scored 11 goals from midfield last season with a high number of assists be as crap as he is with us. How can fans compare him with Evans on top form when in his early games for us he was pretty awful-give the bloke a chance. You could say the same about the forwards who all apart from Dokka had decent goalscoring records in League 1 last season and yet there has been no indication that any of them have scored in their life playing for us except against Cambridge for Omacheree. As regards our wing backs it seems to me that the only thing they are being trained to do is to defend to the detriment of their attacking flair. To be honest I dont see any ideas pf attacking football coming from the Manager and he just seems to be advocating the only football being played at the back and hoofed up to outnumbered striker. Should Taylor be sacked now? I dont really see the point as we have allowed him to bring his own players in and it is very early days- there again I was totally against sacking JB as I believe Managers should be in their jobs the whole season. Where do we go from yesterday? Well apart from the first 15 minutes surely the only way is up in performance as it was truly dire all around. IMO a starter is to approach with a more attacking based team by pressing three attackers up to stop opponents just strolling out from defence. Maybe a starting three of Forde,Omacheree and Sortirior or Thomas backed up by a midfield of Conteh,Lindsay and Hutchison.I dont really know our defending options that well at the moment except that i would try to play four at the back- although it seems recruitment was aimed at playing a back three. I am sure in my mind that at one stage we seemed to have signed a lot of left backs although what i have seen so far none of them appear to favour defending!! I have always favoured attack as being the best form of defence as a general policy and IMO if the Manager is going to keep his job he needs to adopt this attitude and pick a team and stick with it for a few games. At the moment we seem to make five substitutions each match which indicates to me he hasnt a clue what his best team is and there is no chance of a side gelling . I would very much be trying to get an out of contract strong midfielder in sooner rather than later. Too many performances like yesterday and i think MT's tenure will be over. I hope not but probably for the wrong reasons in that I have no con!!fidence whatsoever in the owners making a good appointment

There's not been one post on here saying that, are you confusing them with you who was quite happy to post you wouldn't be happy until TG was dismissed? As far as plastic whinging fans I'd imagine a lot of them were supporting Rovers, and keeping the club alive at Eastville & Twerton, before you were old enough to attend games. If you are happy to watch the cr@p MT sides have turned out for the last 10 months there must be something wrong with you.

Against Stockport we had similar issues at the far post, where they had 3 decent chances, sp we're clearly not learning from our mistakes. As far as subs MT had to do something at half time unfortunately it was like moving the chairs on the Titanic. Until Ward returns you do wonder if we'll pick up any more points.

This is such a bad set up for defending corners full stop.
Teams notoriously load up their strongest players aerially to attack the back post and we’ve ended up with two of our attacking players doing that job.
First one Hutchinson had a fight with his player and actually made the first contact but had no control over where the ball drops and it dropped to an unmarked player. The second one was similar but it was Soteriou and he didnt even make the first contact.
Id we insist on everyone back for corners, then these players should be used as front screens and short corner cover or edge of box players.
Ludicrous to have them on far post areas.
