One bit of positive news is the new Ashley Down Railway Station is due to open this Saturday 28th September. Just checking the Trainline app , trains departing Bristol TM, 5 minutes past the hour are direct & only takes 8 minutes. Anyone using Keynsham or Yate railway stations, there is 1 change required at Filton Abbywood. Looking at the map, it looks like approximately a short 5 minute walk from the Station to either the Lazydog or Foresters pubs.

Just had a quick check on viability of this as an option from Keynsham (even with the nause of it not being direct...) and:
It costs £9.20 for a return - bad. 30 odd minutes there (including change) - not bad. Over an hour including roughly 45 minute wait at BTM for every return train - bad.
Absolutely nothing there to encourage me to give it a go. Why is rail so sh**e in this country even when they've done something useful?!

45 mins = Enough time for half a shandy and to get some reduced priced food for your tea.

I can get a bus to and from the bus station for £2 each way and they run every 15-20 minutes. It’s a no brainer. I would love to, and have used, the train to get to Rovers. But it’s sh**e. I tried to get the train into BTM on Friday evening - first one cancelled, third one cancelled and second delayed over half hour. Binned off the experience (again!) for the bus. Service needs to improve dramatically to enable a passable resemblance to a metro rail network and IMO be priced a whole lot cheaper so people ditch the roads. I’m not holding my breath.

The only positive news is the journey before the match from Temple Meads. After in order to get the 16.55 train you will probably have toleave the match mid way during the second half. Next train is 17.55 which arrives after my usual connection at Temple Meads has already left.

It's great to see a new reopening of this station, but I fear it may suit away fans more than home.
Apart from Lazy Dog (Ashley Arms) and Foresters, you can easily divert on the fabled Gloucester Road for The Oak, Drapers or numerous cafes/shops/eateries...
There's also Ashley Fish Bar for some early or later chippies with your carnivorous pescatarian selection.
Interesting note....The Anchor (Showboat/Big Apple) has revamped it's interior including an interesting homage to some of the famous Gas ex players. I'll leave it at that. It's the first time the pub has come out and publicly declared an affiliation as far as I'm aware!? Nice touch amongst other things, but if you happen to chance a nice day, 2 positions to drink and eat outside is surely a draw...?
Something else to consider if horseless carriaging it in from Ashley Down Road direction.

In addition to the hourly service, GWR are stopping the 13.36 from Temple Meads to Gloucester at the station at 13.40, a little more time to be had in the pub. Added a 17.24 departure after the match which may be a bit touch and go to get, if added time is excessive.
