I will stick my kneck out hear, MT took Exeter to division 1, this was with a young side. It is hard, 16 new players, most of them young with lots of potential. Finding the balance is hard when tryi g to understand the team, you set your side up differently against different opposition and try to get a settled side but also give minutes to those who need to be fit. A win is a win let's keep it up, UTG

We need to stick this out. I feel there is a good manager in Matty Taylor and a good squad. Very naive at times but that is what you get from youngsters and a new squad or team that are learning each others game and finding themselves. We need to unite as a fan base forget JB, he is gone and not coming back. The problem with his type of personality is that it will always divide a fan base and a player group. Be careful who you wish for, another manager would take time to know this squad all over again. Yes they they may get lucky but this is a hard division this season. There is no instant formula to succeed, just time and patience. The only way we are going to do this to support our team Bristol Rovers. UTG

Very good post John, Matt is here for the long term plan, patience was always going to divide the fanbase, most expect a new squad to just gel.
We were talking last night before the match if we got Ryan Lowe or Schumacher in, they would want a new coaching staff, plus their own trusted players, we have not got the money to keep changing the whole structure, the new players are on longer deals to protect our investment in promising young talent.
Nathan Jones who most on here at some stage would have taken is under pressure from their fans, they are disillusioned with his leadership, just shows how difficult it is.
This season will be one of consolidation, in a difficult league, we need to trust the process.
We are all Rovers fans who want the best for our club, what irritates me most from posters on here is their selective memory of joey ball, my memory is tippy tappy from the back 75 % possession in our own half with no end product, and derisory comments about Matt's tone in interviews, let's be respectful and get behind the team, last night seemed like a pre season friendly, poor quiet atmosphere.

There are those still calling for Ollie, I doubt those who want Barton back would stop while we are going through a bad spell. The answer to calls like those is to win and play well. Easier said than done, but that's football. I agree with others that this is season 1 of a longer term strategy, one of consolidation and bedding in the new crop of players. Unless MT loses the dressing room or we really are in trouble, I don't think he'll be sacked (yet). We can't keep churning managers, coaches and players. It's expensive, disruptive and ultimately gives us a bad reputation, putting off the good ones we want to attract going forward.

I didn’t think the atmosphere was too bad last night - considering crowd of 6, and a half thousand , 500 of those adick fans ! 💙

We need to stick this out. I feel there is a good manager in Matty Taylor and a good squad. From what I`ve seen so far, I`d say you`re half right. One win does not remotely make up for the last ten months or so of utter dross. But I hope that last night was a turning point, and that Taylor can start producing a winning team playing decent football. Far from convinced yet though.

Thought it’s just this sort of game the new sky coverage is gonna affect, but hopefully those that stayed away will be inclined to come back again soon. We coped but we need more, feels like ages since the crowd was that low for a decent league game. Interesting Charlton didn’t bring more too though but maybe the sky effect for them too?

I agree, within reason. So long as we’re not fighting relegation.
Stats tell us the longer a manager is in charge, the more successful they’ll get.
The reality is what do we expect? If people expect play offs then they need to manage expectations. Taylor has spent yes, but transfer fees have gone up. We now need to spend this money to stay in L1, not to get promoted.
If we can finish above 15th then I’d keep him on and let him build a project. Our budget is roughly midtable, so who cares if we’re 12th or 15th? Is that worth sacking a manager every 2 years for?

Good OP but Time isn't something any manager is given.
We need a comfy season where we never really flirt with relegation and see appreciation in the playing assets. That'll be success.
Cynically we've signed cheap young raw talents and it currently appears as such. We need some of these promising players to start showing their on pitch personality. Sometimes it takes a moment. I'm hoping that Sinclair gets a run playing close to promise. Still got 5 yard pace and his finishing is decent for this level. Feel this could free up promise a bit and get him going.

I said pre-season I expected us to be between 11-15th and that's what I'd still expect. We've had a poor run of form but we'll also have a good run at some point. This division has gotten infinitely harder this season specifically with the introductions of Birmingharrods, Huddersfield, Stockport, Wrexham and even high-flying Mansfield. Peterborough, Bolton and Rotherham won't continue being this bad, Reading/Wigan are stablising a bit now too and Blackpool looking good under Bruce. This is a tough, TOUGH division to get out of and stay in. What I want to see is a squad that play for the shirt, graft and attempt to show a semblance of attacking knowhow. I do not doubt that these players are trying and working hard. I have always been MT in and I will honestly say that after Wycombe I was out, but results and performances (for 75 mins) like last night show me that even I can be too kneejerky. I think we should remain patient, for now. Pirate posts the same old statistics after every defeat and they're not wrong - so we do need to see a very tangible increase in performances and results. Last night was, hopefully, the beginning of that. Burton (A) isn't easy and we've struggled there in the past but also contrarily, it's a very winnable game. Have faith, UTG.

Well done Rovers and well done Matt Taylor. Many last night saw Matt Taylor as a dead man walking and I’m sure the consensus was anything less than a win would signal his departure. So fair play to MT for sending a clear message he’s not done yet. This was typical backs against the wall Rovers. An emphatic win against the odds and a great reward for those who are keeping the faith. Having been among the unimpressed with our manager thus far this has left me consider being a little more patient. Finally although I am one of many who find MTs interviews uninspiring , If he can inspire by what he produces on the pitch that will do for me.

To be fair, if you can`t create a decent atmosphere when you`re 3-0 up at home, when can you? True, I was replying to pucklegas, who said it was a poor atmosphere 💙 From my perception the loud support and backing was from the KO, NOT after we were 1 nil up, let alone 3 up. It surprised me and I think it gave the players a lift that Saturday was forgotten or forgiven.

It's like trying to be friends with you ex (who you loved and hung on their every word) new partner and wishing them a happy and prosperous life together.
Funny thing is if you do the classy thing and wish them well, you soon realise they are welcome to each other and the ex was a nightmare. You can then have a chuckle to yourself, enjoy your freedom, then the ex wants you back, then you laugh some more, before you meet someone new who was probably someone else's nightmare but may take you a while to realise.
