Definitely. I remember going to watch Rovers Reserves play Brighton Reserves at Worthing's Ground when Zamora was on loan at Brighton. He was there and was clearly being encouraged to leave Rovers by all the Brighton players and staff. I wrote to Holloway to tell him this and to say how much we should keep Zamora. I remember Zamora and Ellington terrorising Wycombe's (I think) defence when a rare occasion they were both on the pitch.

Brighton nearer South London and Ollie never rated Bobby said he was too lightweight

Came on loan to bath city, scored about eight in five games or something, real pity we let him slip away. Then went to Brighton on loan and scored a goal a game. I was dumbstruck that we sold him for ~£100k - but we really did have a formidable strike force around that time. We'd have probably had to play him wide or something to fit him in. Brighton ended up overtaking us in the league.. likely thanks to Zamora's fire power and Michel Kuipers (another one we let go) in goal

I remember one of them - Ellington I think - running in their penalty area bouncing the ball up and down on his shoulder! Those two really should have been our future

I would love to be in a position now where we had a conveyer belt of Beadle, Cureton, Roberts, Ellington and Zamora……….he only got away because there was no where to play him.
I look at us today, Promise, Raul, O’Donka (loan), and thank god for Martin, we are light years off back then. And Shaqs isn’t a forward either.
Not only did we find them, we’ve got a defender and ex winger coaching Promise, Penrice coaching the above is like Chris Saniger coaching Glenn Catley and Lee Selby boxing.

Imagine having someone like Berkamp and Larrson coaching Promise and turning it away...

Imagine having someone like Berkamp and Larrson coaching Promise and turning it away... People would come on here and say that the owners are interfering with first team matters.

Brighton nearer South London and Ollie never rated Bobby said he was too lightweight How many times do we hear about players that were once considered too lightweight then go on to stellar careers. Maybe we should offer a chance to all young players who have been told they’re a little too lightweight to come and join us. UTG!

Everyone’s a judge after the event.
24 years ago we were flying in league one, had two of (if not the) best strikers in the league with a young duke as back up.
Reserve team player comes off the bench for us 6 times, without scoring, goes on loan to a struggling league 2 club, does well of course scoring 6 in 6. 100k looks value
However
Cureton and Roberts both left that summer and the club must have seen it coming, Cureton for 250k for errr non footballing reasons I believe, Robbo for £2m after a long transfer request.
The strikers who came in that season to replace I think included Martin Cameron - cost £150k Danny Allsopp Kevin Gall Justin Richards - cost £125k Christian Lee Mickey Evans - cost £300k
That was the problem for me, replacing with bang average players and no wonder we got relegated that season.
If you’ve got £2,250,000 in the bank from cureton and Roberts do you really need to sell Bobby for £100k and buy three lads for more money.

Didn't we sell him after some of the others? It might have been just before, but we were always going to sell Cureton and Roberts that summer. So I was surprised we sold him and brought in Justin Richards for a few hundred thousands. We could and should have kept him at the time. He was scoring goals for fun on loan.
