“We aren’t always going to get things right, and I have seen a few articles flying about questioning why we gave John-Joe a three-year deal,” said the Cobblers manager. “But I think a lot of other clubs would have taken him and given him the three-year deal, because that is what he was after. “He was on decent money, he was available on a free transfer, and he had just come off the back of a really good season. “But it’s not worked for us, it’s not worked for him, and you have to move on and make decisions. “You can’t bury your head in the sand and hope it will all come good. “There are better managers than me that have made signings that have not really kicked in and now I just want to work with the players we have got. “I think we have a really good group, and it’s developing nicely with age and experience. Things are ticking along well.” But in all seriousness, we've paid our dues, made our mistakes and can now laugh at others as they do the same stupid things we've done in the past. Let's just hope we've remembered and we've learnt...

no. well, certainly no official news of that. the article quoted above is 5 days old - www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/wilder-defends-decision-to-bring-in-midfielder-o-toole-1-6782558Seems like Wilder is under pressure to explain why he gave the tool a 3 year contract and high salary, so he's trying to defend himself, and maybe gain a bit of publicity for the Tool being on the transfer list. That presumably explains the reference to not burying his head in the sand and hoping things improve, rather than meaning he's paying the Tool off. But whois going to want him and pay his salary? I can see the Tool sitting on a nice pay packet for a few years, just like he could have done with us. I have no sympathy for Wilder/Cobblers. Just like I have no sympathy for us lot [including me!] when we refused to listen to what Gulls fans told us about Buckle.

Red card for fighting - a Mansfield player pulled his headband off, so JJ turned around and punched him! "Nobody messes with the DO!" (Ace Ventura) I miss you.

One of the most talented footballers we have had in recent years, but unfortunately one of the worst attitudes. He could have been a legend down here after his loan but he was only in it for himself. That interview he did with the Irish paper that was published the day we played Pompey left a bad taste.

I have no doubt about his skill and ability, but he never actually 'played for Rovers'. There were good (and also experienced) players in the squad when we went down, and the fact we were constantly trying to build a team around him was our biggest problem...

I'm sorry, I just can't agree. He did everything he could on the pitch aside from 1 or 2 performances. His off the field antics were bad but if others had done their job on the pitch as he did we would not have gone down. Worse Rovers player ever? He wasn't even the worse in that squad!

Take your point, but what we needed was a leader in the squad. Based on his loan I like everyone else would have signed him. Once he was here he should have stepped up to lead the squad on and off the pitch. Sadly it seems he did (off the pitch) and we know the result. It wasn't all his fault though, JW was guilty of not dropping him and picking teams to play around him....maybe this is where DC learnt to pick a team for an opposition, and to drop a player for any given 90 minutes to get a result. And one of the worst Rovers players ever? Based on last season, yes. But I'm not talking technically, I'm talking about players who don't understand the Rovers culture.

(last year's squad aside, of course ) He was a good goalscorer and put himself about well when he could be arsed, but technically I didn't think he was up to much. His passing wasn't overly great and his touch often left a lot to be desired, IMO. Or maybe my dislike of the bloke clouds my judgement!

"Nobody messes with the DO!" (Ace Ventura) I miss you. Sorry, I've been unforgiveably antisocial since we got to the playoffs. Just sort of dazed since I got back from Wembley and it's been a bit like winning a pot of money and just knowing it's there and not needing to talk about it. Sometimes life goes on for a day or two and I forget what's happened and then I think of football and the conference pops into mind and then I remember that that's not us anymore. I had feared we would be there for years and suddenly it's been proved to be just a silly blip after all... It seems too good to be true. Things just don't go that well, and I'm still adjusting to fact that they actually have!

Distraction to the fans if he's even in the ground, let alone on the pitch. I want players and fans concentrating on three points. The *only* way I can see JJOT help us achieve that is if he starts on the bench and then comes on whilst we're 1-0 up with approx 20 minutes to go...otherwise if he plays from the start he'll distract the fans which in turn doesn't support our players.

I think he will be on the bench and come on if Northampton need a goal.
