In is the worry that a fair chunk of the squad including the manager could be off in 2/3 months.
Given we've seen first hand the problem of long contracts to players who only performed whilst searching for the lucrative deal are we now about to experience the disadvantage of good players on shorter contracts.
I don't know the exact lengths of some of the players contracts so I'm assuming most are on a one year deal but is anyone else worried that what we are building could very soon be torn apart should DC leave in summer and be able to take a fair few players on a free?
Again I apologise for the big assumption they are on 1 yr contracts.

I'm guessing that the important players out of contract will have verbally agreed to re-sign.
They're just waiting to see if they'll be signing a League 2 or Conference contract.

I'm pretty certain Mildy,Lockyer Parkes Macca,Brown,Clarke,Mansell and Harrison are all here for next season and I would assume Easter and Blisset are too, the rest bar Sinclair are pretty expendable. Our surprising and unexpected league position is mainly down to our defence. obviously the improving Leadbitter would probably be offered a new deal but the nucleus of the team should be intact unless league clubs come sniffing for Parkes which would mean a decent fee.

EASY to resolve this! We make sure we are promoted to the football league and our players will most likely want to stay if offered a new deal!

It is a concern, but as the last poster has said, let's just secure promotion so we don't have to worry about people leaving, I don't think anyone will wanna leave if we win the league

Parkes signed a contract extension on improved terms in September 2013, taking him up to the summer of 2016. He must be on very good money considering the terms were an improvement on his initial 3 year contract. Well, he was a lucky boy to get that extra year when he did given what transpired last season, but now he's playing so well again, perhaps we're the lucky ones. If we don't go up I reckon we could get a decent fee for him, but obviously I hope he stays.

Not sure the thread title as anything to do with the actual post, however, looking at it from another angle it would be foolish to start offering contracts for next season just in case we don't go up and so loose the parachute payment of £500K, as big cuts will have to be made in the playing budget.
Regardless are the likes of SS & MT going to turn down contracts with a league club, if they are offered, they've just helped to get promoted? If so, I doubt we want them on board next season anyway?

Puddy had done very well to me and Mildy has cost us points against both Dartford and Eastleigh.

If we go up, I'd like to see Mildenhall stay but as a no.2. and be the goalkeeping coach (if he's interested and has ability to coach ) and get a younger keeper - Lillis at Rochdale ?? think he's lost his place in their team.

Were they not mostly 1 year deals with options for another year if conditions were met for example appearances/goals/clean sheets. Im sure DC saying at the start of last preseason that the difficulty in persauding some players to come in was that we were only offering this option as the norm unless it was a bigger player with known pedigree and no fitness issues.
So in effect it was like a 2 year deal but in the clubs favour?

Surely we've been here before with Harrold & Paterson's contract I can't recall either worked in the club's favour. Although at least we don't seem to have any Paterson type players in this season's squad.

They were automatic appearance only based contracts and not performance based as well. A vital difference I think!

Not sure it does make a difference as I assume if we go up the players are certain to trigger any performance based contract extensions, but do we really want a squad of full of Conference players in Div 2?
