'Roversgate' verdict due this week2:21pm Monday 16th June 2014 in Wanderers By Andy Carswell Bucks Free Press: 'Roversgate' verdict due this week 'Roversgate' verdict due this week WANDERERS are set to find out this week the outcome of an enquiry into allegations of breaching third party ownership rules. Both the FA and Football League have been investigating claims brought by Bristol Rovers that Wanderers gained an unfair competitive advantage last season because of alleged irregularities in the 2010 transfer of Matt Phillips. Wanderers are confident they have no case to answer, having previously brought a breach of regulations relating to agent dealing to the attention of the footballing authorities themselves. The club was fined £10,000 for that, with Rovers calling for further punitive measures and a points deduction to be given to Wanderers. A ruling on the affair is likely to be made at some point this week. www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/sport/football/11280550._/

Smug bastards, I really hope they get a shock, not much chance but you never know. My gut feel is that if there were no case then it would have been summarily dismissed. I think there is much more to it that could go on for a good while. I have never thought we could have the remotest of chances of reinstatement nor do I think we deserve it. I do however feel we are right in pursuing it.

Maybe the FA/FL have waited for the fixtures to be sorted

I still have a horrible feeling that the only thing that will come of this, will be us looking very silly.
Hope I`m wrong, really do.

With such allegations one would think that there would be an element of doing things properly and in not making such comments as the chairman did. A little humility goes a long way in my experience. The guy knows they did wrong but were punished only in the one count. If I am remotely close then there are at least 3 more allegations of the same type to answer plus then ( open to interpretation) up to 20 more other allegations that are in the mix. The guy has been flippant and nearly vainglorious in what he said to his own fans, press plus they are quick to tell anyone that they are not paying legal fees. Take the whole lot, even if 50% is true or close, then we have a very convoluted scenario. I tend to read in between the lines and it seems the Wycombe fans are now open to the possibility there is more to it, going by phone conversations I have had and then on their forum. If this was really a case that were so simple then it would have been dismissed out of hand. You know how the FA work but I feel the FL are more involved here. Anyway, smug ? Damned right the chairman is though I feel sorry for the common football fan. They are no different to us in that they just want a FL team to support. What seems all at odds to me was the short statement by the FA in that they seem to be saying they are only looking into the 3rd party stuff with the one player. I can't see this ringing true or they would have been able to deal with it in the day with either an additional fine or to dismiss it by saying it has already been dealt with. Sorry for going on. I don't know if you're talking about us or them.

I have two points:
1. The original statement at the top of this thread ignores the fact that this case specifically refers to a sell on fee.
2. In response to comments that suggest that some supporters would have preferred that the board didn't pursue this. Just imagine the uproar when fans found out that this was known about it but the Board did nothing. I know 'sometimes' the board has got it wrong, and I think now they'd be the second to admit that, but this issue really is a case of the board can't please everyone, or can't do right for doing wrong in some eyes.

I`m not against the board pursuing it, and as you point out, if there is something there then it should be looked into. I`m just worried that if nothing is found, we will look silly.
I guess its a bit of a no winner, really.

This is spot on IMO. I can remember many occasions our fans have gone nuts about our club not opposing Red cards etc. sometimes you just have to do the right thing even if, on the outside, it would seem for the wrong reasons. I am led to believe we were offered a financial restitution to address this but turned it down but that is going by Tote ends post. I have no reason to disbelieve Brian as he has been on the money with news beforehand
