I was thinking about some of the 'feelings' that we often have about the run-ins that the promo contenders have, and some of the phrases bandied about (e.g. Barnet steam roller the bottom teams - which is actually true - see below) so decided to look at the stats. I knew we had a pretty decent record against the top teams, but didn't realise we had the best (so far). Vs TOP HALF TEAMSwww.statto.com/football/stats/england/conference/2014-2015/versus-top-halfWe have a 1.85 points per game average against teams in the top half Closely followed by Grimsby Town - 1.83 Macc are 4th but significantly lower, on 1.44 Barnet are 7th, on 1.35, and with a negative GD! (-1) -they have 3 matches to play against teams in the top half although the bookies won;t be taking any bets on Kiddie staying in the top half much longer! Torquay are the amazing surprise, in 3rd with 1.6 points per game! Vs BOTTOM HALF TEAMSwww.statto.com/football/stats/england/conference/2014-2015/versus-bottom-halfBarnet have a frankly legendary record so far though, steamrollering 2.53 points per game, and with a +37 goal difference! and have never failed to score in such a game. Macc are 2nd with 2.14 points We are 7th with 1.95 points. Grimsby are 12th with 1.8 points The surprise is Braintree in 5th who manage nicely to stuff fellow strugglers, with 2.06 points per game. As widely reported, Barnet have 4 games left against teams currently in the bottom 5. Although it would be foolish to ignore Barnet's current record, I suspect relegation threatened clubs at this time of the year may put up a slightly stronger fight, against a team in its own mini-crisis. Well I certainly hope they do!
