But only best of a terrible bunch, I don't think any of last season's strikers have got more than 5 goals at any of thier new clubs apart from DC. Why is soooooooo dark black and bright white when talking about players from the past ? It seems every player last season was garbage cos we went down ?? Hang on probably not Brown, Mildenhall, Parkes, Lockyer and anyone else I've forgotten who's still here from last season - these players are the best you've ever seen I guess as we're riding high in the 5th League !? Compare, for example Clarkson to Blissett or O'Toole to Ollie Clarke would you seriously say that we now have the better players now? I sort of agree however I would say that this seasons squad is fitter and has better desire and appetite to play well and fight for their team mates. And yes I include most of the players we retained. IMO only Brown, Lockyer and Mildy did themselves justice last season. I'm sure other players were "better footballers" if you like but I'd take this years squad over last years every day. Edit. I'd snatch your hand off for Smith.

Does anyone else think that perhaps the balance and attitude of a TEAM is more important than whether this player is better than that player blah blah ? Some players are brilliant in some teams and poor in others. There's no doubt that we did have some quality last season but Ward gave the squad no balance and no structure, players were played out of position we lacked players to fill certain positions and there were problems behind the scenes too, it was a mess. What DC has done is keep the best hard working players from last season that he was able to and brought in other players to create a squad that is balanced, hard working and got a fair bit of ability too. Who cares if Blisset is better than Clarkson or O Toole is better than Sinclair ? It's impossible to say, but what I think we'll all agree on is that this team is better than that team regardless of individuals. Of course I agree with you Socrates - that a well -balanced team is essential. We all know that Ward didn't have that and he also played a negative brand of football. He played 4 -5 - 1 but used forwards in the wide position and I really felt for Clarkson and Richards (who in my opinion did work hard for the team but you could see that we weren't getting the best out of them). I obviously hope we go up automatically and I want to hear DC say as soon as it's possible that when in L2 we are going to play with 2 up top, like we have this season, he will then convince me and my son to buy a season ticket for next season. I thought it was criminal that last season a club with our budget was playing like the frigging underdog every game (ten men behind the ball home and away) and so the football was soooooooo boring and we rarely looked like scoring !

Yeah if you play like that then your not going to score enough goals to stay up. Simples.

It's clear how bad we were last season when we saw the loaning out of Elliot Richards as a massive blow to the squad. He wouldn't even make our bench this season.
