Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke wants wingers and creative midfielders to boost squadBy The Bristol Post | Posted: June 18, 2014 BRISTOL Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is targeting wingers and midfield players as part of his plans for life in the Conference. The Pirates boss has so far focussed his efforts upon bolstering an attack that flattered to deceive last season, recruiting Jamie White and Matty Taylor from Salisbury City and Forest Green Rovers, respectively. But he is now turning his attention to other areas of the pitch and insists his priority is to bring in "wide players" and "midfield creators." Rovers' players report back for pre-season training at the end of this month and Clarke hopes to have brought in a few more new faces by then. He anticipates tabling a bid for an unnamed winger later this week and has revealed plans to run the rule over "eight or nine" trialists during pre-season. Clarke said: "I'd like to get another two or three in before the start of the season and I'm after wide players and creative midfielders. "There may be an offer going out later in the week for a wide player, but we will have to wait and see. "I won't be rushed into anything and I want to take my time if it means getting the right players." Clarke has already identified a number of players he wishes to take a look at during the pre-season programme and these will be joining the Pirates for training at the end of this month." He said: "I'll be looking at eight or nine players in pre-season. I won't name them all now, but they will have an opportunity to impress in friendly games and on the training pitch. "I can take a few weeks to look at them properly and they will have the chance to show me what they can do." Attacking midfielder Alan Gow has recovered from long-term injury and will be looking to prove his fitness in pre-season. Clarke said of the former Exeter City man: "We'll have Alan Gow coming back for pre-season and, hopefully, he will able to show us his ability. He will add to my options." Meanwhile, Rovers have added a sixth game to their pre-season friendly schedule. The Pirates will head to the Corimium Stadium this summer to take on Cirencester on Tuesday, July 8 (7.45pm). Tickets cost £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 for under-16s. Rovers are also scheduled to take on Bath City at Twerton Park on Saturday, July 19 (3pm), Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Tuesday, July 22 (7.45pm), Mangotsfield United on Wednesday, July 23 (7.45pm), Gloucester City on Saturday, July 26 (3pm) and Coventry City at the Memorial Stadium on Friday, August 1 (7.45pm). So when he talks about an offer going out, is that a contract offer or a transfer offer to a club for one of their players. I would assume the first option..?
Sounds like our striking options are now finalised then unless either Brunt or Harrold leaves.

Only Two or Three more? Are we playing in the 5-a-side league? We're down to the bare bones and he's already admitted that Smith, Brown & Harrold could leave. Presumably, Santos & Brunt could also be off. We need at least a baker's dozen of players.

Two or three and I'll be putting a few hundred on us to be relegated!!!!!!!!

I'm reading it as 2 or 3 more before pre-season starts and then the remaining signings will come from the 8 or 9 trialists he will be mulling over in pre-season and the friendlies.

From what I have read DC will look to use the loan market a bit wiser than we have in recent years too so I imagine they will be the last to arrive. If we are 2 or 3 short going into the last few weeks I will assume loanees will be the answer.

Keanu-Marsh Brown released by Barnet due to finances. Would be a great signing but not sure how realistic it would be. Get on the case DC!!

Would be a fantastic signing - one of the best players in the conference and a true goalscoring flair winger

We currently have 1 keeper 1 right back 2 centre backs 0 left backs 0 right mids 2 defensive centre mids 0 left mids 4 strikers So we will probably use a youth keeper as cover so will need a mininum of 2 wingers, an attacking midfielder and a left back. Thats just for the first team.

Two reason's for this, 1) A lot of players are tied into contracts until June 30th. 2) DC will want to see potential targets play in friendlies ( not just for us ) before he makes his mind up.
