I wanted to put some ideas out there prior to the meeting just to see how they are recieved. They are meant as positive thoughts so go easy. I have thought long and hard about what can be achieved as a fan base following relegation in particular following my experience of RAFC, observations of Black and Gold and the forum sponsorship scheme.
What strikes me from the failings of RAFC and Black and gold is most fans dont want to actually physically be involved in such protest movements and the second the board see them they put a wall up. Stripes forum sponsorship scheme worked because fans could feel involved without having to physically get out there and it created a positive financial contribution without threatening the institutions.
As such i believe the Independant Supporters club is unlikely to succeed however much they or i want it to as people wont put the effort in that is needed and it will fizzle out.
So what can we do ?
1. Short term i would like to see us try and support the club as real change will take time but money and unity is needed now. I would like to see the forum sponsorship scheme on a much bigger scale that incorporates Twitter and facebook. The club needs the money and the more we raise the more we will be listened to. People will back it as all they have to do is click a mouse and donate a bit of loose change. The club should hold events for members throughout the season to encourage membership.
I would also like to see the pledge money for a result scheme expanded (performence related donation scheme). It could be merged with the above or run seperately. This could include raffles for members involved such as an excecutive box for a game, signed shirt etc.
I have already passed many ideas like this on to the club. I also believe DC should be invited o our fans meetings so h can understand the issues we have and we can support and understand each other.
2. Longer term i would like us to try and influence change. I love the concept of the independant supporters club but ultimately i dont see it working. Fans at Rovers just dont back these schemes and the board will build walls up
The answer in my mind is the fans unhappy with how we are progressing join the supporters club and change it from within. Lets get roles on the committee , put people up for election as fans directors and turn up to vote. It has indepndence in its constitution but it needs new ideas and personalities, a new generation of fan. People on this forum are that generation, they have the capacity to drive change whilst still remaining civil and polite with the board so why not ?

Great post Dins; some great ideas and I agree with your thoughts. What JTS has achieved with the FFS is nothing short of brilliant and I think you're right that it's simplicity is what makes it so appealing. I really hope JTS continues with the work he's done with the FFS, but if he doesn't I will of course hold no grudges. Perhaps from the donations the FFS receives, an official FFS website could be set up - a landing page if you like; I'm sure brfcffs.co.uk is available as a domain name and the contributions could pay the monthly fees for having the site up and running. Let's be honest - it won't cost much to run it and the donations would easily cover the nominal fees (£2-£8 a month max). The benefit is that you have it in one central location, with an easy to memorise web address. You can easily promote it via Twitter, Facebook etc and someone amongst the fanbase is bound to be a web developer who would be willing to do the work for free (or a seasons free FFS membership) who could create something really user-friendly and flashy. A PayPal button can then be added to the page so that with one click you're on your way to signing up. A news page can then keep members (and non-members for that matter) abreast of any FFS related news. I'm sure a member count and "total raised" could be added to the main page to. If the FFS continues to sponsor young players (which I love) then I'm sure the club could grant JTS (or someone else) access to them so that as they are "signed up" by the FFS, they could do interviews with them which could then be placed on the FFS. You can also have a media section to document FFS days out and events with photographs and reviews etc. I'd also have a "newsletter sign up" so that members and even non-members can sign up to the newsletter so that the FFS can keep in contact with all fans who show an interest. The database that collects the email addresses could then be provided to the club for marketing purposes (obviously that would need to be pointed out when users signed up so that we had their agreement and provide and opt-out option if they didn't want to take part). The benefit then is that this also helps the club as well. Personally I think it would be a really useful platform to not only promote the FFS, but get news out to the fan base too. I honestly think the FFS would grow considerably through having an online, official platform. Not sure what others think?

I agree, good idea.
I think the club should do a fly on the wall video of our build up for the new season. Let th fans get to know the new players and have a look behind the scenes. Makes everyone more human.

Some positive ideas. Getting the club to engage meanigfully with anything is the challenge.
I still maintain anything raised for the club should only be passed on, on full agreement and comitments for its use by the club. I dont mean that to be negative but in order to encourage engagement between the two or more parties. At least that way it can be seen how receptive the club really are in time of need

It could also act as an umbrella for all the various forums and social media sites so people can easily find their favourite on-line space. It is the fans forum sponsors club after all and I don't think we're ever going to get back to the days of a having a single forum.

Why don't you come to the meeting on July 1st and MIX with other Gasheads ? better than this stuff on the internet.
I really don't know why you keep saying invite DC ?? He has enough on his plate anyway - as he's the Manager, Fitness Coach, Chief Scout, taxi Driver and Player Liason Officer !!
He also can't influence his bosses and shouldn't be put in that position anyway. Looking forward to you Dinsdale confirming your attendance on July 1st.

I already said i was going Mark, and also that i only missed the last one and a fair bit of last season because my wife had been very unwell. I sensed a bit of hostility in your post, i hope i took it wrong as been open about these things. I have also given a lot of time to causes in the past hence why i feel able to see what hasn't worked before.
I don't want to invite DC to try and get him to influence the board but to discuss his plans for the club with a public meeting of gasheads. He has publicly said twice now that he wants to meet with fans and have a discussion. It would be good for him to see what the fans are anxious about and for us to get to know him a bit and give him our support.
But hey this is obviously your thing
