Good for them. Now let me go back to not really caring about them.

Yet so many of their fans still mention us on the day of their promotion? Bit funny that.

good for them.
they are like the lilies of the field, or the sparrows in the sky.

City now THREE divisions apart from Good Old Bristol Rovers ...... discuss ? That will only become fact if we don't get promoted - they're still a League One side at the moment! Personally, I think that they will still be two divisions apart from us next season.

They've well and truly dicked that league from start to end, so no-one can say they don't deserve it.
I'm dying for us to get promoted, but not because of any divide, I'm dying for us to get promoted because we need it. They can deal with their business and hopefully we deal with ours.
Success, in my opinion, shouldn't be in parellel with the clubs rival. Should City fans be happy they could be three leagues above us? I'd take it, don't get me wrong, but they have underachieved for a good number of years are returning the a level they should be at. Some Rovers fans would be happy to be a bit closer to them lot, yes so would I, but I just want this club to be performing as we should, forget about them or any of the West Country clubs.
For years, both Bristol clubs have worried too much about success over the rival and not success. For years, both Bristol clubs have underachieved. I'll worry about Bristol Rovers much, much more before i care about some gap.

already moved to general footy talk.
Mark - genuine question.
Why do you support Rovers?
Do you support us because you think we're going to be in the Championship on crowds of 6,500? Do you support us because you expect us to win loads of trophies and play amazing football? Do you support us because you miraculously expect the West Country to abandon the love of rugby tomorrow?
Do you support us because there are some good days, some good people, some good laughs, some funny away days, some talented players, some really special things about us that no-one (or virtually no-one) else has [nicknames, Irene, quarters], or even because of the (mainly) positive reputation we have as passionate fans who travel in numbers? Or because our not very rich owner is trying hard to get us a new stadium and is being regularly shat on by, sometimes quite dark, forces outside his control?

Always had expectations - even in The Championship back in the 70s even when we had, at times, as few as 6000 crowds at Eastville. Where are the expectations now from BRFC supporters and THE CLUB ? Before you answer go and ask ex-players Peter Aitken and Stuart Taylor and other ex-players who still go to games what they think ? City's success tonight highlights very clearly how much we have fallen.

City's success tonight highlights very clearly how much we have fallen. I understand all that and am literally in the middle of writing a piece about expectations, but what I don't totally get is why Rovers fans (myself included often) let themselves get so wound up about being pretty unsuccessful on the pitch, because let's be honest, being successful on the pitch is often only a small part of 'supporting' your football team / why we are supporters of a particular group of people who kick a ball around for only about 75 hours a year. Regular success is the privilege of a small handful of teams now, and as society is getting more and more obsessed with being 'successful', more and more people are weak willed and prefer to get instant / regular success by supporting Chelsea, man U etc, rather than a local club. If that's what people want then let them drift off to 'supporting' a team via the TV and the daily grind of gossip / stories about how pathetic their 'heroes' really are, and how disgusting their salaries are. Who was it who said you get the society you deserve? And sadly modern football is a lot to do with outside investment, not fan bases, and we don't have much of it. I've never met Stuart taylor, but would he really suggest that players like Tom Parkes or neal Trotman aren't decent players who are 'fit to wear the shirt' or that players like Steve Yates weren't immensely talented, and that Steve Elliott, Andy Tillson, Geoff Twentyman, etc were really good centre-backs. ALL players from different sections of the last 25 years. maybe the issue is that we can never get a good enough TEAM together. That is down to the manager a lot, and where Gerry Francis succeeded so well, and others have failed so badly. I get the feeling that this squad is starting to play really well together as a TEAM, and deserves our concentration rather than worrying about City. DC is easily the best manager we have had for a very long time.

Neither club is an advert for good sense. The Gas should not be they are. And no club should lose forty million like City did in a couple of seasons and end up in division one.
City have watered league one and so they should. All the rest cant lose nine million and still buy the best player in Luke Freeman in the lower league. Success has been bought and delivered using Steve Lansdowns monopoly money.
No excuses for Rovers either to not close that gap now.

What's interesting is despite the other Bristol club's success this season we can still sell out our final game of the season. As long as we can get out of the Conference this season or next I can't see it being an issue.
Although the longer we stay in the Conference the bigger issue the divide will come as I doubt many young fans will choose watching Conference football over Championship games?

City's success tonight highlights very clearly how much we have fallen. Or how much City have spent? They can redevelop their ground at the click of a finger. Maybe we can swap resources for a bit and see who ends up where. They've spent a sh** load of money to get back to where they started.
