Adam Marriott’s future could become clearer within the next week as Conference Premier clubs vie for the Cambridge City striker’s services. City boss Gary Roberts revealed last season’s top scorer has already turned down the advances of Sky Bet League Two outfit Stevenage. Conference sides Bristol Rovers and Nuneaton Town have come in for Marriott as well, while he still has the offer of a new contract with the Lilywhites on the table. “The Adam Marriott situation is still to be resolved and I’m hopeful we will know where we stand by the end of the week,” said Roberts. “Adam had an offer from Stevenage, which he rejected, and Bristol Rovers and Nuneaton have also made bids for him. “But Bristol Rovers probably isn’t a realistic move for him and I don’t think Nuneaton’s offer matches our valuation of him.” James Brighton is still in negotiations over a new deal and City would also be entitled to a fee for the defender if a club came in for him. But Josh Dawkin has rejected a new deal and now looks set to sign elsewhere after telling Roberts he had an offer which was too good to turn down. Roberts is pursuing several transfer targets, although missed out on defensive duo Johnny Herd and Russell Short. But he is pleased to have already secured the services of long-time target Buster Harradine. “We had him training with us a few years ago and he decided to stay where he was, but now he has got the confidence to step up,” said Roberts. “He’s shown a lot of ambition. He could have stayed at Soham, but he has decided to give it a go at a higher level.” Read more: www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Sport/Cambridge-City/Football-Conference-clubs-Bristol-Rovers-and-Nuneaton-Town-pursuing-Cambridge-Citys-Adam-Marriott-20140628070555.htm#ixzz35vD1Cvvx

I wonder why Bristol Rovers "probably isn't a realistic move for him"?

Interesting that it sounds as if we made a bid that matches their valuation. Wonder why we aren't realistic. We'll see...

I wonder why Bristol Rovers "probably isn't a realistic move for him"? My guess is location. Also, I wonder why he turned Stevenage down so quickly.

It seems we're as popular as herpes with footballers (unless they're West Country based).
Might be the reason why the club have had to hand out long fat contracts in recent years.

Marriott certainly wouldn't be a replacement for Harrold. He is tiny. He looks about 5ft 6in on tiptoes.

Certainly a great goal scoring return.
