I think we're becoming obsessed with the money it's possible to make from concerts. The club/venue only 'makes money' if it can sell the 'premium' add-ons...exactly the same as for a football match.
It's less about numbers through the gates and more about what you can sell them once they're inside. For example, go to an Elton John concert and you're more likely to be the kind of person who buys food and drink at the venue, you'll probably buy 'premium' drinks too...we know this is where clubs make their money, after all why were Man U/Wembley/et al 'chasing' the prawn sandwich brigade? Because that's where the money is...
