He knows this is just delay tactics, we know it's delay tactics, the judge knew it was delay tactics. There's no way he thinks he can actually stop the development! What a cock.
The chap he is appealing to has already made his mind up on this for goodness sake, they are persistent I'll give them that but they are just now making themselves look stupider by the day.

His stance really is not supported by any of the main parties, including ex Bristol Rugby players! The current setting of the Gates is poor, and certainly not fitting for remembrance of war veterans. The Sainsbury's 'Memorial Gardens' setting will genuinely be so much better.
My grandfather was a regular in the RAF, my father was almost killed in service in Cyprus (jeep blown up by land mines, and also had a bullet through the window which then went on to graze his head), and I was in the TA LI. If I wanted to remember their contribution to our country, and to world freedom, I would certainly prefer to do it in a grassy/leafy setting rather than the current concrete carbuncle.
I can understand that Mr Carstairs doesn't want a supermarket near him but I can;t understand why he is shamelessly using a war memorial as his stalking horse.
re the BEP article. Interesting how journalists choose how to present a stat. "An online petition against the plans... currently has more than 820 signatures." could also have been written 'An online petition against the plans... currently has less than 900 signatures.'

pedants corner. not his local MP, but Sajid Javid MP, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. He has the power to review the decision, and his decision will thankfully be a formality and will be final.

Hopefully he'll accept defeat walking down the street and something unfortunate occurs like it begins to rain and he has forgotten his umbrella

this blokes agenda has nothing to do with the memorial stadium....
it's just a continuation of the anti sainbury's mob under a different guise, and it's really easy to tell because the idiot doesn't know what he's talking about....

I bet he will be shopping at the place once it has been built. Just like his mate Willingham was seen shopping in Tesco Golden Hill a couple of weeks ago. Hypocrites.

You'd hope so. I wouldn't put it past the enemy finding some more obscure detail that could hold it up another week or two though.

So - does this mean that it's finally time for Sainsbury's to show us the colour of their money?

So - does this mean that it's finally time for Sainsbury's to show us the colour of their money? In theory, yes. In practice...depends on the contracts, how much they actually want the site and how much we actually want to start the UWE this summer. And let's not forget, we keep getting this 62-week build figure. Now, the first matches of 2015/16 will probably be the weekend of 8th August. Say a minumum of two weeks for the 'warm-up'/practice events (and reality, probably longer). Which means construction should have started last saturday (unless '62' included the ground-clearance work already done, but I doubt that). If they are still planning to move in in 15/16 they are cutting it very, very close...

I thought I read somewhere that its possible to move in mid season in the conference? The rules are the same in the Conference/League - you need to apply for permission and it won't be given if it creates an unfair advantage either for the team moving, or for 'some' of their 23 opponents. The rule is designed to allow clubs in financial difficulties to fulfil their fixtures (by ground-sharing somewhere), not for clubs to move into a shiny new ground, so I don't see how/why we'd be allowed to.
