Not sure but I'm glad it is. I wonder if it because Michael Garcia decided he'd had enough and went to the authorities of his home country?

11 fifa officials are being charged but only 6 were arrested and extradited today, also the FBI are investigating the 2018 & 2022 world cup bids amid bribery claims. all the money was laundered through US banks hence why the yanks are so watered off.

Blatter is like the godfather of this organisation that never gets his hands dirty, I bet a lot of money finds its way into his pockets for a lot what goes on.
( these comments are simply my opinion/speculation and I have no evidence as proof)

That's what I was thinking. Why not? Corruption is corruption, either the USA got the evidence before anyone else or the USA got the balls before anyone else...

Apparently, Blatter never sends nor receives e-mails, he doesn't have a mobile phone, and as we all know, he hasn't been to the USA for a number of years.......Now we know why eh !

The US also has some wide ranging anti-corruption laws that most countries don't. There is Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which is a very powerful tool designed to go after Mafia-like organisations. Eg, not sure the UK could do this sort of stuff, even if it wanted to. UK law is generally only concerned with stuff that happens on UK soil. IANAL

In a surprise turn of events, the world’s football governing body has revealed that the Cosa Nostra has been chosen to host the 2016 corruption probe – by a unanimous ballot of ‘people with a Swiss bank account’. Despite what had been seen as a strong bid by the FBI, when the votes were counted, it transpired that everyone including the FBI had voted for the Mafia and signed their slip ‘love from – Sepp’. Some journalists have pointed out that the Mafia has never run an investigation on this scale and appeared to be lacking the infrastructure or even ‘a basic understanding of the rules’. However, after a quick press conference and the distribution of few ‘horse’s heads’, it was agreed that the Mafioso were far ‘more approachable’ than Fifa’s Executive. In seeking a fifth term, the incumbent President, Sepp Blatter, endorsed this open and transparent bidding process. A representative of Mr. Blatter said: ‘Protection rackets, election rigging, goal-line technology – we have a lot we can teach the Mafia. Equally, we will cooperate with their thorough investigation; providing them with signed merchandise, complimentary tickets and a pre-written report’. Although six football officials were arrested at a hotel in Zurich, FIFA are said to be confident that they will be exonerated by Franky Four Fingers. A spokesman explained; ‘We’ve been very impressed by the services offered by organised crime. They’re more au fait with the supply and demand of brown envelopes, than the FBI. And, unlike Qatar, these guys at least know how to cover up the deaths of migrant workers.’ www.newsbiscuit.com/

Is it just me, or is this the turning point that, after the last 15+ years of global politics, sport, business, etc etc, finally makes the US cool again...?

I really hope they all perish! FIFA needs a complete refresh! Makes me sick. You can't 'refresh' FIFA - it's beyond help. The problem is it needs a new organisation without any of the current members...which isn't going to happen, so I predict 10 years of chaos...

What worries me is it might go the way of Boxing and Chess, where there are several 'world' governing bodies, so you would have FIFA world champs and WFF (or whatever) world champs etc.
