Nah Daws won't be back here. Had a passion for The Gas so it's a shame but DC clearly thinks there is better available - I look forward to seeing who.

I think he'll be the first signing, not everyone's cup of tea but I'd definitely have him back First signing will be Chris Lines, subject to Port Vale having cover. I think there's gonna be a lot of back and forth with Lines as to what he's gonna cost us, I wouldn't be surprised if he was our last signing, I think Dawson would jump all over a contract offer, which I think will be soon

I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of provisional offer had already been made to Dawson prior to Wembley. Would explain why he was at the game and has spoken so highly about the club.

I wouldn't be overly disappointed if we didn't sign him but equally happy if we did. If you know what I mean!

Personally I'd take AD any day of the week over Gosling who's already been released by a Div 2 side last summer, plus AD will be available every week not missing on, fairly, pointless international duty.

First signing will be Chris Lines, subject to Port Vale having cover. They've already got cover now. Their manager said he it hinged on their first choice midfielder signing a new deal - and he already has. as much as i like DC and trust him, I really hope this doesn't turn into another Constable or o'Toole. Not just the issue of putting lot of time and money into 1 player, but more importantly not getting distracted whilst sorting this out and forgetting to sign some pace and trickery on the wings.

To be honest, I don't think he will. If there's one thing you can say about DC, it's that he's his own man. I don't think he'll pay a penny more than he's worth, or a penny more than we can afford just to appease some fans. If Lines joins, it'll be because we can afford him and can offer him an acceptable deal. If he doesn't, it'll be because we can't (as IMO, there's no doubt whatsoever that DC rates him and would happily bring him to the club permanently if he could). So whatever happens, happens IMO - and I'll be happy either way.

I hope DC has his limit, make the offer and then put the ball in the court of any player hoping to come in. This summer about making us a better team with better prospects not about giving any player the contract they want. UTG!

Apparently Barnet and Southend are after Dawson, but I've seen on Twitter Wigan are after taking him back apparently Gary Caldwell rated him highly when he was skipper there. Roberto Martinez rated him highly at Wigan but said he needed to mature. Also graham Barrow head coach sold him to Liverpool from Bury as a youngster when he was Manager of the shakers. So there's a strong link with Wigan. But i think if DC had approached him sooner he would of snapped at the opportunity because he spoke so highly of the club and seemed to have really enjoyed it.

I was quite impressed that he stayed with us after his loan period. But I've just had the thought that maybe he knew he'd be out on his ass in a few weeks and had better show how much he loves The Rovers in case he needs a contract.

Unlike Ward, Clarke has shown that he can identify the weaker positions in the squad and look to improve them. Even if his first attempts through the loan window last year didn't quite work, he made sure that the squad was stronger than ever going into the final third of the season.
I really rate Dawson and would be happy to see him here next year, but if DC doesn't feel the same, then I fully trust that he will have a better option lined up as his replacement

No I didn't!...but interesting. To say he will be on his arse is a bit extreme. Maybe Dawson just wanted to be at rovers if we went up. Your forgetting he came to Wembley because he was playing for us for 3 months and made a lot of friends around the place.. So of course he wanted to come to the game despite being offered a contract or wanting to be at the club. He wanted to feel part of it. And he damn sure was he offered us a lot when he was here width pace and crossing ability we haven't had from a winger all season. His stats don't lie. In my opinion if we don't take him he will be either playing against us for sure next year or if not in league 1. And I will be very disappointed if DC hasn't even tried to approach him. Because all the better wingers will have already been taken up by someone now unless we buy someone. And I don't think Gosling and Balanta are the answer for league 2. But if he does bring someone into him which I trust I'll be very happy. But what we have on the wings at the minute apart from monkhouse. Just won't cut it for us next season. This is a typical post at this time of year. Panicking because we've only signed one player so far but lots of clubs are yet to do business. I'm pretty sure the best Wingers available won't just accept the first offer that comes along. Surely some of the better Wingers will have the chance to wait and see if they get any better offers? Don't get me wrong, I would have liked us to sign Dawson but that isn't to say we still won't find a good winger or two. In fact Dawson is the prime example seeing as though he is still without a club.

Ideally I think DC would want the option to play either an out and out winger or a wide midfielder on each flank to mix it up. If he is minded to start Leadbitter at right back, therefore providing pace on that side, it could very well be the case that he wants a right sided midfielder and then an out and out winger who can play both sides.

I liked Dawson as he bought into the club and everything DC wanted of him. He was a direct winger who liked to get to the by-line and put a cross in, which was encouraging to see from the terraces as we didn't have that sort of flair or pace out wide earlier in the season.
Having said that, Daws had a tendency to try and beat his man several times in one move, when if he looked up or had better awareness he could have chosen a better option. I also found that he rarely pulled off his trademark step-overs during a game once his full back had worked out, a couple of minutes after kick off, that he was going to do it every time he got the ball.
Daws is a tidy player who showed a lot of promise, but remember he hasn't proven himself at FL level and may not be quite as good as he was in the Conference. We don't need to sign every loanee we ever have - other players are available at this time of year. I would be happy and trust DC if he signs him, I would be happy and trust DC if he goes for other players.
I know a lot of people on here are panicky and fidgety at this time of year if we haven't already made five signings, but patience is a virtue. Darrell has told us he doesn't 'expect' any of the four new signings to come in before the end of June/early July, but that doesn't mean we won't bring someone in this coming week, for example. Transfers can progress quickly and, of course, DC may be playing a few mind games as well, so don't get too worked up.

I think he also went to Wembley with us as he and his missus hadn't been before? I think I read that on twitter near the time. If not him then his bird hadn't been before and wanted to go.
