Hi guys and guyesses I lost interest in boxing some time back due to the split in the various authorities but I have recently become interested again.I am pretty clueless about the sport nowadays, however and I remember there was quite a lot of debate about the sport on the old forum, but none on this one. Anybody still about?

I was a fan too until about the mid 90s, then lost interest as the standard of fighters declined, the WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO, IBU created multiple champions at every weight, and it became credible for someone in their late 30s or even 40s to continue to fight at the highest level. From what I see nowadays Klitschko, Chagaev and co are decent fighters (although Klitschko is 39), but I couldn't see anyone from the past 20 years - in fact since Tyson peaked and crashed - standing a chance against Norton, Holmes, Foreman, Ali, Frazier etc.

Lewis was a decent heavy weight.
Boxing was at its best when Benn and Eubanks were fighting for me.
Pre Watson Eubanks was one of the greatest ever boxers.
I was talking to a mate at work who had never watched anything other than modern heavy weights. He was amazed by some of the middle weight stuff from the 90s.

Hugo, I've learned from every post you've ever made about the Rovers, but to say that Mr. Lennox Lewis was a "decent" heavyweight is incorrect Sir. You do him a grave disservice. UTG!

Lennox was decent nothing more nothing less, for starters he wasn`t English he was a product of the Canadian boxing system, he never lived here as a pro nor did he pay taxes in the UK.He was sparked cold by a limited sparring partner Oliver McCall and a very average fighter named Hassemm Rahman.Lennox fought scared against Evander Holyfield twice despite towering over him and having every advantage apart from a heart.Lennox would have been wiped out in a couple of rounds by 1985/87 Mike Tyson.Lennox wouldn`t have been competitive against the heavyweights of the 70s so his place in history isn`t assured IMO.I dont think Lennox could have beaten Ali,Holmes,Shavers,Foreman Frazier or Joe Louis.Lennox was a horrible fighter to watch a huge beast of a man with great attributes but he chose to fight scared and lean on smaller men pushing them down a vile tactic that has also been mastered by Wladimir Klitschko.
