Posted this on Facebook, thought it deserved wider discussion...especially given our recent contract failures which actually work the other way...

Posted this on Facebook, thought it deserved wider discussion...especially given our recent contract failures which actually work the other way... Stirling has made himself look a complete and utter twat with his (and his agents) behaviour. Ive no doubt when signing his new contract at Liverpool he received a hefty signing-on fee as well ! By signing him, Man City have also made themselves look foolish. It is obvious Stirling's agent had been talking to Man City for quite a while, which surely brings into question the subject of 'tapping up a player'? He has a lot of potential, but no way is he worth 49m.

His agent has lost clients too because of this.

I feel my overall point wasn't explained properly...Sterling signed a contract to play for Liverpool until 2017. In an ideal world if he no longer wanted to play under those terms the club should have just two choices...sell him for a rate based on talent and his remaining contract (which is effectively what they've been forced to do) OR don't pay him anything because he's not performing and let him see out the rest of his contract term with no pay....sadly we live in a world where he can throw a strop, earn a large transfer (and the associated marketing deals) and break a contract because he feels like it......hmmmm........
