I'm not too sure about that. Yes there was a lot of bypassing the midfield, but I think the midfield did have some opportunities on the ball but either gave it back to the defence or wasted it. Northampton didn't give them time on the ball to settle which was a clear step up from Conference teams. You should be able to give the ball back to your defense and not have to worry about what they might do with it. Can you explain what you mean here?

Have I missed something here?? With the exception of that sitter yesterday, what else did he miss? He did not have a good game yesterday, but he never will when he has balls smashed up to his head from 50 yards away! That is not his game, he is the player who plays on the shoulder and looks for balls in behind. For some reason yesterday we decided to adopt of type of football that will never ever suit Taylor. The thing that really annoyed me was the fact that we had someone sat on the bench who is perfect for that sort of football in Bliss. Now I really don't condone long ball football at all! In fact I despise it! BUT, if you are going to play like that then why on earth would you leave Bliss on the bench?! Just could not get my head around that decision at all! Either change your game plan to suit your strikers or change your strikers to suit your game plan. We did neither on Saturday. No surprise to see the same old faces jump on Taylor after one bad miss, but to then start suggesting he was rubbish last season is just utter lunacy I am afraid. Hard to take someone seriously who genuinely has that opinion. Me and my mates left the game on Saturday all of the same opinion, that it was probably the worst display we had seen at the Mem for a good year. Really was very poor. We seemed to abandon the football that got us promoted last season completely. Felt very sorry for Lines who had pretty much no ball in the middle, it quite literally went over his head every time! No point spending money on a quality cm like lines and then completely bypassing him! Madness! Finally, Sinclair, for me, is NOT a winger! He is a very decent DMF who would be perfect alongside Lines. I totally agree with this. DC did brilliantly last season to manage our club to promotion but the blame with Saturday's defeat rest purely on his shoulders in my book. Too many players out of position and a way of playing that suited them and was the last way we needed to play. There were so many wrongs about it all I just don't know what he was thinking.

Yeah we didn't seem to play one sensible easy short pass the whole game it was s case of " sh** what do I do " HOOF !!! every time we had it.

DC said on the radio afterwards that for some reason his players kept playing the long ball but this was not planned. f that was the case then why was he not animated and jumping up and down on the edge of his technical area to try and change it ?

I think to be fair we are doing Northhampton a disservice.
They pressed us right from the front and all their players worked really hard.
We were on the back foot from the get go because they gave us literally no time on the ball in any area of the pitch.
We looked like we were sh**ting ourselves every time we had the ball.

To be honest, I didn't really see this. I thought they were average and we were poor. They didn't really play a lot of football either, they just took their chance when it came and we didn't.

That's fair do's. So if every team comes to the Mem and does that to us, we can expect a similar outcome? All of our opponents will know how to defuse us because managers will be doing their homework and sharing info. DC needs to wise up and I'm sure he will. We played the same way all game and that bit concerns me a bit. There was no attempt to alter the flow. I mean if the players had reverted to long ball based on Northamptons game plan then why not throw that 3rd striker in at the expense of a midfielder? He could have done that at HT to show everybody that he knew what was happening rather than watching it like we have to.

Fair enough really, but we had better learn quick!

Fair enough really, but we had better learn quick! They were a rough handful at the back, we had a frontline that were small and expected to take continuous long high balls from defence as the midfield really couldn't put a passing move together. Best to learn after one game I guess.

Eastleigh played a similar game last season, it seems easier to do when you go 1 up, but no other team tried simialr tactics or if they did they weren't up to Eastleigh's standard. What I can't understand is if for 60 mins your team is booting it long and won't change why not stick on your only striker capable of playing that game, Blissett? Swaping Taylor for Bodin was a joke as we just finished up with a slower version of Taylor/Easter. Let's hope Mansel's fit this week and things then improve or we could be in for a long season.

Actually, FGR played a physical pressing game last year and they beat us too.

I didn't see the "Print That" banner on Saturday. Was it there or is it being saved for Bath Rugby's first game of the season?
