What has this got to do with BRFC? I'm a BRFC fan and I want us all to be motivated enough to get promoted as Champions! Your actual quote has absolutely no reference to BRFC at all. What you are really doing of course is trying to be witty by making a sarcastic comment to mock Rich based on your belief that he does the same on a regular basis... My next question, when has he done the above? Can you point me in the direction of these 'unrelated quotes' that seem to annoy you so?

Both of those quotes are relevant to the thread in question though?
Given the fuss you are making I assumed he had just chipped in with a completely unrelated nonsensical post, that isn't the case.

At this moment in time with just over 24 hours before vote closes there are only 27 "no" responses. Right motivating for me. I expected it to be a lot closer. The YES vote is running away with it. Thanks everyone for voting. I'm refreshed, ready and ready to ride!!!

Seriously richhertford, this kind of post is what makes it sound like this is all about you to some members of this forum, and to be honest if winning a little poll in which 85 people voted is what motivates you maybe you should get out more.

I can understand how it would sound like that. It's more about the club succeeding. I'll watch my language in future.Your right I need to get out more. I'm motivated by most things.

Based on this democratic vote. Ground breaking goal will return. I've learnt much through the debate on this thread and over last four seasons. I had a ground breaking goal of 80% saying yes. I did not achieve my goal. I think some of the No votes made some good points and I will work hard not to annoy, agitate and agrieve. Perhaps some should avoid the ground breaking thread. I commit not to mention it on other threads. See you on another thread soon! I'm there tomorrow with son and father. We are all fans.

So ground-breaking goal thread returns very soon. It's been running for four seasons now. Thanks for all the gaschat members for saying YES to it continuing.
After four games we are on track for a wonderful start to our season. When we beat Orient next week then we would have every reason to expect a season to remember. Lots of positivity around the ground yesterday. In my excitement I even sent a text to the Twentymen show last night suggesting that back to back promotions would be ground-breaking. When Richard Hoskin read it he said it came for a guy called Rich from Hertford!
I wanted to clarify a number of things about the Ground Breaking Goal approach. Some newer members may not be aware of it or some want more clarification about what it is and what it is not. I hope this helps.
The Ground Breaking Goal Approach is NOT: A Belief system based on positive thinking.
I think positive thinking is a good approach for life. I absolutely do not think that being positive on a forum brings about a result you might expect. For example, when we play well we chant “we are going to score in a minute” Is it fun at the time? Of course. It’s even more fun when we do score a minute later! However, I do think that being positive drive better behaviour and better attitudes. I’m not the only one who thinks that. Many successful individuals and teams would think this too. Positive thinking does help you bounce back from failure. We, as Bristol Rovers fans, know all about that. Most people that are successful are normally quite upbeat and positive.
The Ground Breaking Goal Approach is NOT: A management technique used in business.
Yes of course, companies have stretching goals etc but that is not the reason I thought about it for this forum and our club. I just think that most managers (rightly) communicate great messages that calm the expectations of clubs like Bristol Rovers. It relaxes the players and this leads to better performances. Its vital for club harmony that expectations are calmed especially when some fans might have very high expectations. I know the approach is disliked by a few. I think it works brilliantly in sport. Golfers, Tennis Players, Swimmers can have four goals to aim at. Security, realistic, stretching and ground-breaking. When England qualify for the World Cup we know in our heart of hearts that to win the world cup it would be ground-breaking. Why? It’s because very few expect it. Is it realistic to expect us to get to quarter finals? I think so. Being knocked out before the tournament would be classed as a failure. That would be a security goal.
The Ground Breaking Goal Approach is NOT: A motivational approach to affect fans or players.
It just an approach to simplify the expectations of our football club. I don't expect us to end up below 12th this year. For some that might be an immense disappointment for others it might be a good consolidating position. I think it is OK to have expectations and in sports its not as simple as get to the play offs! If we are to go beyond play offs we might need to take risks in matches. Taking risks might mean we might miss out on play offs. If we take a few risks we might win the league. Successful teams do take risks. The managers job is to lower the expectations of fans to reduce the stress and pressure on players during games. Darrel does this “expectation setting thing” in the media and in conversations brilliantly. Before games and after games, he settles our expectations and is professional. Will the players be thinking that they could win this league? With the confidence of unbeaten away results and victories I am sure they will. So will some of our fans. You can be rest assured that winning the league will not be mentioned by our manager in the media if he feels it will raise the expectations or add to the stress and pressure. He is absolutely right. Will he think we can? You bet he will.
The Ground Breaking Goal Approach IS: Just a bit of fun.
It's a football forum and I just post views like everyone else. Are the views nonsensical? Sometimes. Are they unrelated? Rarely. I think it’s OK to set targets in sports achievement. I think it is OK to have our own expectations of our football club. If we win the league this season, I think quite a few of us would not have expected that a few weeks ago. That is what makes it ground-breaking. I think its OK to set targets over shorter period. We lost to Northampton. We felt bad about it. Getting to mid table by end of August at that time might have been a realistic goal. At the time, could we have looked forward and seen us winning the next 3 games or potentially 4? Certainly, some would have thought so. If we beat Orient it might be the best start I can remember in all the years supporting Bristol Rovers. Some might say ground-breaking!
The Ground Breaking Goal Approach IS: Bristol Rovers related.
Of course it is. The goals that are set relate to a number of league positions that we might finally finish in at the end of this season. Its not about other clubs. It’s related totally to our final position. Enough said on this.
The Ground Breaking Goal Approach IS: Probably used in player and manager contracts.
I am absolutely certain that depending on final league position players may well be on an increasing bonus based on final position. They certainly will be in the premier league, where final league position means so much to the club’s financial security. I’m certain that managers that win leagues are on a structured bonus plan that ensures greater financial reward. Darrel and the players will have contracts are based on final outcome of the season. That’s OK with me. It seems fair that good sports achievement should be rewarded.
Tips I would suggest if you do not like the approach.
If you don't like the approach I would avoid the all NEW thread completely. I absolutely do not wish to cause any issues between gaschat members or our fans. Please enjoy or avoid it completely if you dislike it so much. I appreciate I offend some. I'll try not too!
The all new Ground Breaking Goal thread will be launched shortly. I will do my best not to infect other threads with ground breaking thoughts. If I do, it will be due to excitement and and uncontrollable urges to celebrate our successes as they happen. Lets all hope for an exciting season ahead!
