Dinsdale, You really do think you are the only one with an opinion ? guess what, I don't like your opiniuion but I would fight for your right to have it, not make stupid remarks about your use of the internet, if everything you have to say on the subject is so childish I best not bother reading them, that will save hours a day as you seem to suffer forum diarrhoea. No i dont, thanks and i was joking :-) feel free to not read anything i post .

He told us all a couple of months ago that by the 30th of June he wants most of his squad together. Either he has not got the contacts he said he has or the board are reluctant to back his judgements. That was probably in an ideal world, and if he wasn't at a club with an incompetent buffoon as finance director, who it sounds as if was still scrabbling together the budget DC would have to play with weeks into the summer.

DC is having a baptism of fire with regard to making a silk purse from a sow's ear, and I'm not sure that the budget goalposts have stopped moving yet. Hope that the Monday signing will go through, and that it's somebody who will give the fanbase a bit of a lift.

I think DC could and will put together a reasonable side (mid table) on a sows ear. I really think he can do that but don't know if he has the time left. I really think he has been shafted by TWATola and simply wasn't told how water poor his budget would be before he went on Radio Bristol making promises. If he'd known he would have been more circumspect.

The thing is we have not only had to cut the budget from last year but also the £500000 + that we over budget every year too. Its massive cuts bearing in mind we still have 8 players on league 2 wages and the rugby club leaving. If we had lived within our means a bit more in recent times it may not have been such a shock to the system.

The league 2 wages probably aren't a fair reflection of league 2 wages either.

Yup if they were on an average of £1500 a week the wage budget for those 8 alone would be over £625000 Leaving £375000 for the other 15 players. (DC wants a squad of 23 and our budget will be around the £1m mark) so thats wages on average of £600 a month.

As I said to people like you last season, if you dont want people to express an opinion on how we are going to do or how we are doing, is there really any point in having a fans forum ?. At least people expressing opinions you dont like gives you an excuse to use the internet for something other then porn once in a while. For what its worth I dont want any protests groups just a supporters club that is not beholden to Tony, Geoff, Barry and Nick. You can use the internet for something other than porn?? I only use this place for something to do while my porn is buffering. True story. I hope Hugo the younger does not have the same affliction or read his Fathers posts.

I have been thinking about our predicament through the night. I have concluded that once again we are trying to do things on the cheap. DC, as a young, keen manager, would not want/choose to be in this state of readiness at this stage of the season. We are nowhere near where we should be. Everybody must know this. Some of the trialists out there yesterday don't know what their future holds yet however some of them might be BRFC players playing their first game for us in 20 days time. There will no doubt be a few late arrivals(there has to be if we are going to have a squad) and we are primed for the ready made excuses. Players will be finding their feet, not match fit, not used to the level/expectations of the club/still boding with team mates etc etc etc. Now, none of this means we will have a bad season. But it is not ideal. No offence to those I spoke to yesterday(Some on here) but tales of knocking it around nicely against Chelts plus a few slick spells yesterday against Bath, do not get us anywhere in a competitive game against Grimsby in 20 days time. We do not have long for our team to be ready in all respects, know their duties, be fully conversant with eachother and comfortable in the Qtrs. We have to hit the ground running because I sense that some of our fans are going to give it a try for a few weeks before washing their hands with it. There are jurys out all over the place. Tomorrows QnA is just as likely to further disillusion the support as it is unite it. I wonder if the BoD have a game plan? They need one imo because one thing for sure is that if some of those pre questions get HONEST answers, there will(should) be a riot. We are in a mess and some of our opponents must be rubbing their hands looking at our preperation thus far. Praying and hoping for a massive alteration in conduct over the next 2 weeks to give us any chance. All my own opinion based not on facts but on what I can see and hear. Very good summary of the pre season this far. Small wonder some talk about our club being run like a Sunday pub team. The board need to set their stall out and allow the manager to do the job he is employed to do. The arguments and fragmentation at board level are having a massive effect on the pitch. Seem to me we clearly have not learned anything from the disasters that took us into non league. Personally I think that the thought of the UWE and perceived money that coukd come with it, detracted thoughts from the team and led us to this point. I think you are right about some fans that will come to the first two or three games, if we do badly they will call it a day. I will remain interested but no way would I pay £20 to watch conference football. I look at around £60-70 for a day at Rovers and I just cannot rationalise that now. I try to pretend I don't care but I do and always will. I just cannot bear to watch a team that does not seem to be able to score.

We may have had to cut about £1.3m from the wage budget based on anticipated loss in tv money, gate reciepts, the rugby club going, no longer funding an over spend etc. At least thats what my rough sums tell me. As i said on another thread based on what we are likely paying last years pros our average wage availability per new signing will be well around £600-£700 a week. Luckilly the first year pros will be pretty cheap but finding quality players that want to play non league, relocate to bristol and play for under £1000 a week is a tough ask.
In fact the only reason im cheesed off with DC is for raising my hopes and promising the earth when in reality he has naff all to work with. I just want transparency so we all know where we stand. If only we still had the share scheme funds from its peak as it would fund an extra 4 players a month at this level. If we dont go straight back up a huge relaunch of that must be worth doing at more reasonable share prices.

we have no bigger problem with recruitment than any other conference side though.... c'mon a lot of the sides down here don't even get 1000 people a game, but I bet they've bagged all the best non-league talent at a good price, while we are looking down the barrel of a gun....

Thats a very good point but the smaller clubs will have structures in place to find players in non league and good quality part timers. We are reliant on agents and DCs contacts. Who are the clubs paying silly money at this level ? Eastleigh Forest Green Gateshead did someone say ?

Its easy, you look at the club accounts under wages. Google loss in revenue to the conf, take off the rugby money, do some estimates in loss of gate receipts (i did 15%) take off the annual overspend which they will no longer do and you are left with a budget. I admit its massively based on estimates but i would be suprised if its not around £1m.
